Today, I finally got a diagnosis and the consultant confirms it is MS.
As well as inflammation found on my spinal cord, I have a couple of spots on my brain, and the lumbar puncture came back positive for the relevant proteins.
I’m going to be referred to an MS specialist nurse who will arrange all the appropriate meds for me. I’ll be started on Beta Interferon (self administered injections… eeek!) and something for the discomfort and pain caused by the nerve damage in my legs.
The MS support centre for Cornwall (The Merlin Centre) is centre 5 minutes away, so that’s a bonus!
So FINALLY I have answers! No it’s not good news. It’s actually pretty shite news. But at least I can move forward at last!!!
Hi Kaz. Sorry to hear your diagnosis but the good news is that you can now make the necessary adjustments to your life (medication or whatever) to improve things for you. it is great that the MS support centre is so close to home for you. i hope the injections go ok. You can do it!
HeyKaz I’m sorry you have Ms but as you say you can move forward. Just out of interest how long did it take from you knowing something was very wrong/thinking you had MS until the actual diagnosis? By the way wishing you well withyour treatment and I do think it is a huge positive to have a centre on your doorstep. Gill x
Thank you both I’ve had symptoms for about 7 years, but MS was only seriously suggested about 5 months ago. So it’s taken that long to go through the process of bring referred to the neurological, investigations, and finally diagnosis today xx
I’m sorry about your diagnosis but pleased that you can finally get some help and have an answer for all the symptoms you’ve been getting. The limboland journey is hard, however coming to terms with having MS is another journey in itself and I’m sure you’re going to be up and down for a while.
Just take things easy - one step at a time and good luck.
Kaz, I know its not great to get the dreaded diagnosis, but at least now you know what you are dealing with, can get onto some treatment, and hopefully start to move forward a bit.
I’m so glad that at last you have answers, even though it’s not great news. At least you now know what you are dealing with and can move froward accordingly. It’s great that they are getting treatment started . Good luck and take care
Thank you all so much for your lovely replies I’m feeling pretty positive right now, but also nervous of course. After so long wondering if I have this very unpredictable disease, it feels quite odd to say out loud “I have MS”. Small world by the way! Nice to ‘meet’ a couple of locals on here Kaz xxx
Dear Kaz, we need a word on here to express sympathy for a definite diagnosis but well done for getting one…I’m going to invent…Commisulations! I hope that by receiving the news you feel that you have reclaimed your power. Always ask for help when you need it and remember that you are loved and supported. All the best
