We can only hope and pray there is not a second wave. I have been out on my electric wheelchair and there are so many more people now especially in the park because of the warm weather we have had, only a few people where wearing masks.
I kept my distance.

I don’t think there’s such a thing as ‘unduly’ worried. Just worried. I live on the South coast and over the weekend there were police breaking up large gatherings and anti-social behaviour on the sea front. In a generally quiet, family friendly area.
It looks like restrictions are slightly lifted and the weather is glorious so people get a bit carried away. If large gatherings are going to continue, it’s entirely possible, even likely, that infections will increase again. (IMO!)
I’m continuing exactly as I have done for the last 2 months. And I stayed well away from the beach this weekend!
Sue
No matter what restrictions are eased, I’m waiting and watching, not rushing out to see if I get it!!!
the first wave is not over yet. viruses dont quite work that way. we have to eradicate or have low numbers which is then dodgy if we have activated virus again from low numbers to high numbers, take korea and germany. but they have it back under control now.
i am still shielding myself. i rarely go out. i think its safe enough if people stick to the rules 2 metres is so important, hand wash 20 seconds, no standing about yacking to people without face protection, unless your 2 metres and VENTILATION.
WHO knows this virus may burn out it did in 2002, and 2012, (SARS AND MERS). what is the most dangerous point really is if we dont get a handle on it now, and when winter comes and everyone huddles back up and in warm houses and windows shut we will not only have covid but flu too.
so we must get the figures right down now. in my area its doing well 3 days no new cases or death.
i think what will happen now is any clusters will be identified and a lockdown introduced regionally.
watch this space.
CC I watched a Horizon programme which explained the difference between SARS / MERS and COVID-19 in that with S / M as soon as people were infected their symptoms were significant, so they could be traced and cared for whilst not infecting others. With COVID-19 people carrying the infection may be oblivious yet still transfer and share the virus. Quite a significant difference and one that leads me to remain cautious even though the apocalyptic scenes are calming down.

Hi mick that is why SARS 2 is way more dangerous then the SARS1 AND MERS. BUT the effect on the lungs etc is the same.
so one has to assume that EVERYONE has it Mick its safer that way. 5 to 40 percent they are now talking about being A symptomatic which is scary enough. i can find the scientific links, i am doing course on it again.
Its the reason why its so dangerous. all those people coming home from skiing holidays were probably super carriers. also the long 14 day incubation period doesnt help.
2nd wave or not I think we’re best self distancing, wearing gloves face masks etc . basically looking after ourselves.
Exactly i am staying where i am althought to be honest not well enough to go off on my own, and quite happy to stay in and do all the things i do i never have time in my day lol.
Hiya
In my area we have the highest infection rate in the UK and I have just got an email from our council leader to all residents to stay indoors for a few more weeks!
Take care,
Marty
I’m in the South West which is one of the two highest. No letter here but was not advised to shield either, were you?
Apologies if this has already been discussed, I’ve only recently come back on the forums…
I have RR MS since 1986, I’m on Avonex and still on my feet, I also have other auto immune diseases, Alopecia, PMR. I have not been told to shield or do anything different to anyone else. Interested to know if others, without other serious conditions, have been told to?
Thanks
not sure how relevant this ‘R’ they talk about is re. number of cases.
To say that for the ‘R’ figure to be 1 each sufferer would only infect one other person. I guess some sufferers will infect many whilst other not infest anyone??
Why do we not just get figures which we can compare with previous ones - and keep wearing face masks!
Yes, I am worried about a 2nd wave…which will really be 1st wave extended…unless they mean China is sending out more of the same.

My area opened up yesterday, and my mother’s already out running around, adamant that she doesn’t need a mask. I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been, and that’s to limit my activities around other people, wear a mask when I’m out, and carry hand sanitizer. I’m concerned about a second wave, because to put it frankly, too many Americans are pigs. They go to stores knowing that they’re sick, they cough and sneeze without even attempting to cover their mouths, and they have no consideration for other people. We’re a disaster waiting to happen. The only good thing is that we’re not an urban area, and the virus cases have been few and far between.
I live i south west and i dont agree about the infection rate R being the highest.
we are the lowest.

It is a PROJECTION by the LSOHTM, PROJECTION…doesnt mean it will happen. It just means SW is in an area which is more visited and therefore more likely to have infections.
The reason why they have projected it is because of WESTERN SUPERMARE. the reason being people were unlawfully visiting the sea side town and r value rose high. So 1.3, 1 person spread to 3 people, they spread to 3 people, they spread to 3 peopl.
However, that spike is now way down thankfully.
No one knew what the R measurement was a few weeks ago.
R is just the reproduction rate how quick the virus can spread so its up the people in the SW to make sure they don masks, keep 2 metres (even wearing them), wash hands etc.
where i live we have had no new cases for days and one case in the middle, and no deaths hospital non for a week. the rate in our town is still the same for 10 days. I live gloucestershire.
so forget the R rate, just keep doing what we are doing as of today SOUTH WEST is the bottom of the table. Lets hope it stays that way. MAYBE they should shut all the beaches only for locals.
thats what will cause it, like these protestors, i would not worry about SW, when london will probably now be hit by a tidal wave of infections because of 1,000 of people protesting over something we have no control over.
I am doing second course for covid with the London School of Hygeine and tropical disease and asked them and the answer was its a projection because at the time we had a high incident which was concerning which has now been resolved.
ADDED 7TH JUNE.
One of reason of trembling R in SW. 40% of staff working in the hospital tested POSITIVE for the virus so they shut it for deep cleanse.

stay safe.
it depends on what your underlying condition is.
I have RRMS, my son has Type 1 diabetes.
he has received a shielding letter but i haven’t.
apparently MS makes our risk moderate, diabetes make it serious.
the worst thing about lockdown is that we don’t have a garden.
my youngest son climbs up onto the garage roof and he has such a good suntan.
i just keep on popping my Vitamin D supplements and feeling lonely.
hope you all have a nice outdoor space.

Hiya Sue
I’m in Wirral in the north west. The council do not want the schools to re-open either. In the last few days we have had some shops closing to do ‘deep cleans’ as the shop staff have tested positive.
Take care,
Marty
