Ive been on daily injections since 2005 and i now only inject my tummy area as i have not enough movement to reach back of arms or back of my hips. i stopped doing my thighs as found to painfull. Tuesday just gone 25.09.2012 i injected near belly button and yesterday found i had a massive bruise and a large lump under skin. its hurts to touch and bend over. if i could add a photo i would.
My Question is has anyone else had this reaction and how did you cope with it. What did you do to get rid of the bruise and lump. what can i take for the pain.
Ditto on everything that you say I seem to recall that the Copaxone leaflet advises against injecting within a couple of inches of the belly button, but as you remark, their “recommended” sites are often out-of-reach to us. When I showed my own large, painful bruise (4-5 inches from my belly button, in my belly flab) , which felt like a small stab-wound when I moved, to my nurse, she seemed rather unconcerned and said that I had probably “just nicked a blood vessel”. I don’t know if that’s a valid assessment, but (and I do not wish to alarm you), my bruise soon turned into a vile scab, that took 3-4 months to heal completely. It was, however, a relatively minor inconvenience and it is now history.
Didnt even think to ring Health care at home. They said was going to put me through to Pharmacy But engaged so waiting on call back
I sometimes forget to inject but once its in your system (take about 6 months) then missing one or two every now and then will not hurt. ive found anyways.

I’m a copaxone user but only for 3 days so far!, so reading these posts, not able to help, but reading with great interest.
I did have a wee incident last night, I injected on my left thigh, last night as my third ever injection and within an hour I’d developed hives on my face, shoulders and chest and itchiness too. As a nurse, I know that these indicatate a potential mild systemic reaction. I phoned my copaxone nurse and emailed my MS nurse, so waiting to hear back if I should continue tonight or not.
Otherwise I’m getting on fine and don’t want to give up at what seems the first hurdle!
Hey Jools68, the joys of being a nurse. Same here (on the nursing bit) but have adapted the twist to at least get to the sides to give my abdomen a rest! (on copaxone) As they say, try and stay 2-3 inches from the belly button. Am waiting for one of my female colleagues to volunteer for giving a bottom fat injection!
Hi, sorry to hear that you’re suffering, I had a similar incident when I hit muscle tissue on my stomach which was very painful and bruised. I used just general paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain, the lump and bruise went away after just over a week and I never injected anywhere near it again. You do have my sympathy though as it was very sore. If you’ve done the same then I know what you’re going through. Hope you feel better soon. Steve. x
i have now spoken to health care at home pharmcey and adviced that it can happen but talk to my GP. I have a GP appointment tommorrow anyways re back back and stronger pain killers so will show GP my bruise then
