I’m just after some advice, I have had ms for 15 years and still havn’t figured out the best way to deal with this problem, I have been taking Laxido drinks but not with any success. It has been a week since I managed to go, and I just feel so uncomfortable. Any advice would be greatly received.
Hi there, I use a natural oxygen based produce that works really well and is so much safer than standard laxatives. Not only does it soften your stools but it also cleanses your colon which is SO good for your overall health. Just go to www.thefinchleyclinic.co.uk and search for Oxy Powder. It was recommended to me years ago by my colonic therapist and I’ve been using it for years and its just the best stuff ever. No more constipation and you’ll feel more energised due to your colon being oxygenated. Give it a go. Best of luck Lisa x
I tried to post before bu I don’t think it worked. Get yourself some Oxy Powder capsules from either amazon or thefinchleyclinic.co.uk. Perfectly natural and safe and you will never be constipated again! Beat of luck x
Is there any reason you can think of why this is happening,or not.Change in diet, meds, fluid intake etc
If you can get to the GP, or anybody who can give you a script get some MOVICOL.Take two of these for a couple of days, then on the second evening take two extra strength SENOKOT tabs.If it feels like you’re not far from success the following morning get yourself comfortable on the throne and massage you abdomen.I’m guessing Google will have some pretty pictures of this.
This usually works for me and sometimes I’ll eat a handful of sweetcorn to use as a poo marker to give me an idea if anything is still hiding. If I don’t get success on Day 1 I’ll repeat the Movicol and increase the Senna.Still no joy it’s Dynorod or the GP. By Dynorod I mean Colonic Irrigation which re-boots the system and in the past it’s helped for months.
This works for me and doesn’t break any of the directions, but we’re all…
Is there not something that you can eat or drink that usually works for you? I swear by Rhubarb but some say prunes or orange juice. If you haven’t been for a while you might want to try a suppository - you can buy them over the counter or even in the supermarket with the senokot and other medicines, that will help with softening what you aren’t going to want to pass! As with everything else - one mans medicine is another mans poison unfortunately. Movicol did nothing for me it just bloated me terribly but works for others. The GPs usually start you off with senokot which improves the movement of everything southward but sometimes add lactulose, a syrup that softens, you can take them together if needed. I’ve never tried the sweetcorn test, life hasn’t got that sad yet but there’s loads of time.
Apart from loads of fruit & veg, have you tried a tablespoon (or two) of golden linseeds? Better to try the natural route first before moving on to more serious drugs.
Hi Lolli, sweetcorn is completely undigestable by humans and even if chewed nicely it will still be visible as the colour is not degraded,or it was the last time I checked
Comisserations, after using every kind of fruit and veg known to man (well nearly), including every kind of bran, plus taking Movical and using suppositories and spending too much time (for my liking) thinking about it! I was advised by a very wise person on this site to try linseeds. I take one tablespoon full of linseeds after breakfast followed by 2 glasses of water, I still take Movical when needed but must say for me the linseeds have worked. I buy them at my local health food shop. I have also cut down on Amitriptyline and started on Gabapentin instead this has helped too, Good luck.

It’s taken me years to get sorted and I think this might be useful…
laxido and movicol are the same thing - but no one told me the right way to find the dose I needed.
I went to see my continence clinic and she gave me a leaflet with instructions on how to track my stools (!) and adjust dosages until I found the right dose for me - it was a revelation - so my advice would be to get your MS Nurse or GP to refer you to your nearest clinic and get some advice.
Try dulcolax you can buy them over the counter and they are good. I only take them if I am really suffering as they work quite harshly, i take two before going to bed and I am up in the early hours of the morning needing to go to the toilet. Worth the night of disturbed sleep rather than suffering with the constipation x
I’ve had trouble for many years, I have gone up to 9 days between going and have tried many different things to help but the best thing without doubt has been sauerkraut, not the pickled stuff on shop shelves but properly made stuff that has not reached temperatures of 46°C therefore preserving and feeding your body all the good bacteria needed in your gut. You may have to source a quality delicatessen.
I did have a few accidents over the initial couple weeks but definitely worth it.

Hi, thanks all for the info and advice. I read up about the oxy powder on the web, it’s got to be worth a try. Glad to say the laxido finally worked and it’s hard to believe how much better I feel, stuff ms it feels like I’ve kicked it in the shins for once. Now I’m going to really try and manage this problem, lifes hard enough without it. Thanks again to all, I had never felt as low as over the last few days’, and your comments really helped. Take care
Plenty of water figs, prunes, dried apricots, I do beleive you can take 8 sachets of laxedo in a 24 hr period in cases of fecal impaction. Just make sure you drink plenty of water and once the blockage has cleared then take one sachet a day until normal service has resumed. Then figure in fruit and lots of water in your diet. Good luck and don’t stray to far from the loo x
Hi I was down to every 5 days due to meds and was recommended Hemp hearts - I have 4 spoons yoghurt and fruit. After a couple of days it worked and I currently poo about 6 days out of 7. I can’t believe how happy this makes me
All good info thanks. Its very embarrassing but I think there are a lot of people who find toilet habits have changed because of MS.
I have blocked a few loo’s in my time since being diagnosed. Quite a few large blokes would have been proud of the product of my small bum (yes I do mean that one of me has produced enough for several large blokes)
OK ok i need to go on a diet - my big bum alright!!!
