confused

hi im confused, ive recently seen a general medicine doctor for all my symptoms and thinkin and hopin theyd send me for an mri scan to rule out ms or anything in that area he ended up arranging for me to be fitted with a heart monitor(which im having taken off today), and bloods one of which was for b12.

ive been told my b12 levels are 150 and as far as i know anythin under 200 is low but the doctor who told me my result said that the doctor who arranged the blood test probably wouldnt do anything to treat it as it probably isnt low enough to be treated.

so my question is does anyone know if this b12 level is low and do u think it should be teated, any replies would be greatful as this is new to me and i dont know much about vitamin b12 deficiency. x

thanx, hope everyone feelin as well as can be xx

Hi Paws, I did a very quick google… and it seems that the ‘normal’ level should be around 200… but seems many people consider that this level is way out of date (interestingly the same is thought about Vit D3 levels)… seems that current thinking is that levels should be much higher… but NHS are still going with the ‘200’ level as normal.

As I say, was quick internet search, so I may have this wrong and suggest you google ‘B12 levels’ or ‘deficiency’ and see what you think.

If the doctor won’t prescribe B12 supplement, look at buying it yourself on internet… but again, do some research to make sure you’re doing the right thing and get the right dose of supplement.

Good luck,

hi patb, thanks for replyin,

ive googled b12 a couple of times and keep coming up with the same thing that b12 levels are normaly around 200. not sure about them supposed to be much higher.

ive just made an appointment with my gp to discuss my bloods as it could be another couple of months before i see the doctor at the hospital. if i get no joy there i will prob look into gettin some supplements myself, il just have to work out what the right amount for me would be.

any ideas how i would work this out please?

take care xx

Sorry no idea how to work it out… but if you google the question "Should vitamin B12 be higher than 200?’ you get some good links.

Keep in mind that you can really find anything on the internet to suit any question, but worth having a look at the links just to get some idea.

Do that and then wait and see what the GP thinks.

Hi paws - I take b12 after reading a thread about it… If you put b12 in the search box you will find lots of useful info. Debbied168 posted a thread on 29 Oct 2011 and got 92 replies. This should help you Hugs Minxx

Hi minx thanks for your advice, im new to this so not sure how i find Debbied168 thread

Good morning Claire- what are you doing up so early? Me - acute injection site pain woke me. First time - I have the rebif chiller thing in the freezer to try to take the sting out. To answer your question. If you go on the first page of everyday living. There is a box starting off with “show me posts about”. Down the bottom there is “search” then a box which if you put B12 in and then I think click on go it should come up for you Hugs Minxx
