Cold virus and MS

On Sunday I caught a virus from all the people around me with colds, this reacted badly with my MS and by mid afternoon the only thing I could move below my neck was my fingers, also had the burning and pins & needles in my legs and hands. Was taken by ambulence to hospital, obs were normal, left in A&E for hours before admitted to a ward. No treatment was offered but thet wanted to keep me in for observation for the whole of this week. After 24 hours, discharged myself as there was no medical reason to stay and was taken home. After 5 days I am now returning to ‘normal’. This is the second time in a year that this has happened and last time I camped out on the bedroom floor.

Anybody else experienced this? Any advice?

PS With my consultant I have stopped taking all meds as they had little affect, his advice was to stay as fit and healthy (physically & mentally) as possible so when a cure comes I will be well enough to take it. I do take supplements Vit D, Omega 3 and fybogel as MS weakens the relevant muscles needed for bowel movements.

Hi Gidmeister,

I’m pleased to hear you’re returning to ‘normal’ now after a nasty experience.

I went shopping for a few hours last Sunday and came home feeling tired but OK. Next day I felt like I had been hit by a double-decker!! I managed to get up and shower but for the rest of the day I lay on the sofa and drifted in and out of sleep all day…couldn’t lift a finger and just wanted to die! Next day I was fine. What the hell is that all about??? Didn’t have a cold, sore throat or any other illness so I presume it was my ms playing up.

I can’t give any advice but just wanted you to know I’m glad you’re OK. Hope 2014 is kind to you!

Hugs. xx
