My mum has MS since 1986 and is now 71.
Neurologisys have found more and more lesions in brain and really struggling with short term memory, talking to people.
Is struggling to get any sleep at all amd only eats small amounts.
With her age neurologists are now saying nothing they can do.
Anybody can relate
Hi chloe8917, Well firstly I just wanted to reply and say how sorry I am about your mum, you must find this very upsetting.
So the neurologist has said this to your mum, but has she, or you spoken with her MS nurse (if she has one ) as they may be able to signpost you to someone who could help with her cognitive issues, give her ideas as to how to cope with it. Does she have any friends, is she in contact with anyone, I know you said she struggles talking to people, but this is always good for people’s mental health. Sleeping problems I totally understand, that’s not any easy one, but again there are meds that could help, if she was willing to take them.
Anyway sorry for not being much help, but I thought I’d reply and push you back up the topic board, good luck.

Hi Chloe. I’m desperately trying to think of useful things to say. As Jean says, has your Mums MS Nurse any suggestions?
Bit of a long shot but as remarked on a recent TV programme, a large reduction or cutting out ‘added ‘ sugars can help reduce and reduce the symptoms of Dementia - short term memory loss. Might be worth trying along with as much exercise as she can do?
(As a side comment - I’m struck by the remark of your Mum’s neurologist that at 71 there is nothing they can do. I will be 71 in the summer this year!).
