Classical Music. Second movement.

Hello.

Here are more ramblings about music and what it means.

I’m not sure if the links will work automatically. It may be a copy and paste job. The examples are personal pieces which mean a lot to me but I always like sharing and receiving other ideas.

Best wishes, Steve.

Wonderful music Steve - I’m enjoying your links greatly.

My exchange - below are a couple of recordings from my favourite singers in the beautiful German language which I find overwhelming - remarkable voices, heartfelt sincerity of expression.

Cracking stuff Jackie and Lapwing.

I don’t know a lot of lieder but my bass singer friend and I used to do a mean Dichterliebe. Once a friend of mine introduced me to a canadian bass singer cousin and we sat down for a few hours and went through loads of stuff including the Schubert Wanderer. Mario Lanza still reigns supreme for me. What a voice.

Thanks, Steve.

Meant to edit my last post on this thread, got caught up in something else and ended up just deleting…

I’ll add again the link to one of my all time favourite singers, to the first thing I heard him sing - which brought me to tears. The most affecting, tasteful, sensitive performance of Annie Laurie I have ever heard:

I’m sure you’ve played this Steve. How I love the 'cello:

How delightful Lapwing.

In return here is my favourite Andreas Scholl aria:

As for the cello. It never leaves you. I love the Bach suites. I’ve had a go at the G major a lot but I actually performed the prelude of the C major in an art gallery to a few hundred people. I watched the prelude and felt everything; even the pressure on my left fingertips and the vibrations between my knees. It’s the same on the piano.

Best wishes, Steve.
