claiming P.I.P

I’ve recently had a relapse and I thought now is the time to try and receive p.I.p as I’m not in a wheel chair. I rang up D.W.P and explained can they send me a p.I.p package inc claim forms etc. I’ve still yet to send it off as waiting for a report off my neurology nurse to back up what I’ve stated on my forms. I then received a letter off d.w.p saying I’m eligible to claim carers allowance and expect my money to go up (still on e.s.a) yet I have not had a assessment or even been for a assessment at ATOS. Will this mean I’m due to get p.I.p and I’ve no need to be assessed. When I called D$W.P I had to go through a little interview and answer a few questions 1 of which was my ms nurses number. Does this mean I’ve been accepted and will not need to be assessed as they already have enough evidence or should I still expect to be having a assessment as I’m going to need a home 1 due to bein unable to travel?? Thanks

Hi Martin,

This is a bit cart before the horse.

Someone would be eligible to claim carer’s allowance (its not something that you claim for yourself) if you are getting the daily living component of PIP . They need to be providing 35hours or more of care.

It is not clear from your post if you have actually applied for PIP or if you are still sitting on the forms. I can 100% assure you that you would not get this benefit if you did not apply for it.

Carers allowance is not a feature of ESA. I really don’t know what your letter was all about. Would you be prepared to quote what it actually said?

Jane

Basically I’m still on employment support allowance but since my relapse I’m no longer able to use my legs or right arm. I’ve applied for pip over the phone and the d.w.p sent me out the forms but I’m still waiting for evidence to back up what I’ve said is true. I then received a letter off d.w.p saying I’m able to claim carers for someone if I have anyone helping me within day to day living/sleeping. The letter says; YOUR CLAIM FOR EMPLOYMENT AND SUPPORT ALLOWANCE Extra Money - severe disability premium We are sending you this form because you may be able to get extra money with your income support, job seekers allowance or employment support allowance because - you are getting the middle or highest rate of the care component of disability living allowance or you are getting the standard or enhanced rate of the daily living component of personal independence payment or - your partner is getting attendance allowance We call this extra money a servere premium. Before we can decide if you can get this , we need more information. Then comes with a questionnaire. I can’t get my head around this as I still have not sent off the forms for P.I.P. Thanks, Martin

Hi martin i think you need to fill in and send of your PIP cliam form and send as much evidence you have then if you are succesful claiming with that cliam depending what you get ie higher rate care and mobilty then you will be able to cliam the extra on the ESA not 100% sure but i am sure you need to send of the PIP forms and if they refuse appeal i have just been through this and won so keep positive . Katy

Martin You are on ESA and have asked to apply for pip. The letter about severe premium, which you may be eligible for, is depending on the result of the pip assessment that you will need to fill the form in for. The letter sounds informational rather than an actual award letter. Give as much info as possible on the pip application including details of all your medicines. Send a copy of any letters from neuros, GPs and copies of any prescription. Being on ESA does not mean eligibility for pip and visa versa. Regards Neil

Thanks guys

Hi,

First of all do not delay getting your PIP application off because you are waiting for medical evidence. You can send the evidence later (making sure to put your name and NI Number with it.) You will not be considered for PIP until they have this form in their sticky mits. And I am reading about long delays for first applications so the sooner you get it off the sooner you will be in the queue.

Disability Premiums are paid on some means tested benefits like Income Related ESA. If you get middle rate care DLA or the daily Living Component of PIP and nobody claims carers allowance to look after you, an extra amount of money is added to your benefit. This letter is, as Neil suggested, an informational one, pointing out that you could be eligible for this premium.

Until you have a PIP award you will not be eligible.

BTW YOU cannot claim carers allowance. Somebody who provides 35 hours of care per week can claim it. But if they do the premium would go.

As usual the DWP are as clear as mud.
