I have a urethral catheter. I have had a catheter for the past 4 years, but in the last 6 months, I have had issues with bypassibg.
District nurses tell me that the catheter is blocked with sediment in the pipe and at the start of the catheter inside me.
I am trying to drink more, have regular flushes, and empty the pipe I can see. Still bypassing occurs and the catheter gets blocked.
Does anyone else have these issues, or can anybody offer any advice?
Yes, I too have an indwelling urethral catheter which unfortunately, after all the washouts, manipulation of the tube etc still blocks. I had mine changed in middle of December because it had blocked. However, it was nearly due a change. Your problems sound so similar to mine. Do you have it down to get changed every 12 weeks? They changed the schedule on mine and it now gets changed every 8 weeks. This might help as I do get to the 8 weeks the majority of the time.
It’s the sediment that’s so disheartening to me. The only time it goes away fully is when I take antibiotics.
I’m sorry not to be more comforting. I don’t think things are any better with a suprapubic one either. I really think you’re doing exactly what you need to do with the washouts etc. hope it gets better for you in future.
Hi, I also have an indwelling catheter, it is flushed by the District Nurse every week. Been a long time since I had a blockage, might be worth looking into. Gary
