Cannaibis to be legalised for medical use

Hi folks

Just heard on the radio that Cannabis is to be legalised for medical use.

Sounds like we will need to obtain a prescription from our Neurologist and then get it past our GP.

Though I’ve just heard that it will probably only be prescribed after sufficient research has to be done for each illness to prove that it works, so I think it will be up to NICE.

They’ll do a load of research, develop some kind of high CBD, low THC version, squeeze it through NICE, and set an astronomical cost on it. NICE meanwhile will freak out at the cost, decide that it’s down to each individual Clinical Commissioning Group to say whether an individual will get it or not.

Then in about 2024, a few people will try it out, decide that it works about as well as (already legal) CBD oil or paste. And those people who currently break the law (shock, horror) and take some form of cannabis that’s got good old THC in it and is doing some good for their pain and/or spasticity will just carry on. Meanwhile the rest of us will just carry on just as we are now!

[/quote] Brilliant - so well put

It sounded as if it was imminent and the THC’s would be included in a pill but you might be right.

Given that Sativex is already available, I suspect they’ll make it a bit easier to get a prescription for that. Some people have found that it helps. And others not so much.

We’ll see what happens.

A bit short of detail, but here is confirmation.

Your link doesn’t work, this one might: UK doctors will be able to prescribe cannabis medicine next month | Cannabis | The Guardian And there’s more information about what is likely to be available here: What is cannabis oil and how does it work? | Cannabis | The Guardian It seems that we were generally right, it’s an oil made up in the main of CBD.
