Hello everyone, I am in the process of trying to find a new dentist who can do home visits as I am no longer able to get into the dentist chair at my current one. Can anyone recommend a good dentist which offers this service? I live in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester. Thanks. Regards, Jim
Hi Jim, you might have trouble finding a dentist that does home visits, i live in Leeds and tried to get one last year, i rang the local primary care trust up,but all they could offer was a visit to the dental hospital in Leeds, and transport to get there seen as i was housebound,i didnt take this offer up,i couldnt face going out of the house,at that time,so waited until i could get to a dentist, that was w/c accesable.you could google for the number of you primary care trust.good luck.
Hi -
Have you tried contacting your local NHS Community Dentistry team?
Community Dentistry can be accessed by people who have ‘additional’ needs that make it difficult to attend standard dental provisions. This includes people with serious health conditions, mental health difficulties, learning disabilities, dental phobias, as well as people who speak english as a second language. You can phone up and self refer, although in some cases it might help if you have a supporting letter / phonecall / email from gp or consultant.
I think Community Dentists can make home visits, and if you need treatment that cannot be done at home, they will advise or help organise transport to the clinic . Community Dentistry Staff are trained to work with people with a range of complex health conditions, including mobility difficulties. They usually have supports / hoists to assist with transfers to dental chairs if needed.
Also, they are a salaried service - which means that unlike general practice, the dentist receives the same wage, regardless of whether they see 5 patients in a day or 25. This means that they are not hurrying you in appointments - they really take their as much time as you need; they will not try to rush or hurry your mobility.
The only downside is that because there is a high demand for the service, it can be quite difficult to get appointments (unless it is an emergency, in which case they will always fit you in).
I see a Community Dentist in Newcastle, and I cannot say enough good things about them. If you google ‘community dentistry manchester’ you should find links to clinics across your area.
good luck! x
