Hi All Wondering if anybody can help? For the past few days my left hand firstly the side of my finger but now it’s travelling up my hand has been a bit painful and when I touch it feels like I’ve been burned!!..this is a new thing hoping not the start of a relapse just wondering is it normal for things like this to happen when you’ve got ms without meaning its a relapse?..had a strange feeling similar on my foot last year and it went away hoping this does too. Thanks Emma x
Hi Emma
Ouch! I know that feeling, for me it’s my left arm but mine never did go away and I’ve had it 4 years now. As you know, if it’s new and it lasts for more than 24 hours, then it is counted as a relapse but a sensory one so not ‘significant’ as far as neuros are concerned.
They are still significant to us though as they are flaming painful (no pun intended). My nurse prescribed amitriptyline for my arm and I have tried several times (with her guidance) to cut it down with the intention of coming off it altogether but as soon as I start to cut down the burning comes back. For me, it was itchy, hot, felt burned and felt like hundreds of ants under my skin. I tried slapping every cold substance known to man on it and nothing relieved it. I was wearing vest tops in October and trying to sleep with one arm hanging out of bed as I couldn’t bear even a cotton sheet on it.
I’ll keep everything crossed for you that it goes away soon and you don’t need more meds.

Hi Emma
the back of my left hand frequently burns. After the burning has been there for around five minutes, my left arm go’s numb. First time this happened I thought I was having a stroke!
This usually wears off after around an hour or so. Hope yours go’s too1

The nerve endings are a funny thing, I get frozen parts of my body. It is best to see a doctor incase but don’t worry as worrying doesn’t do anyone any good
Yeppers, I was told its all part of normal MS and under the hypersensitivity either hot/cold or pain tingling of skin areas.
With me with hotness I find anything menthol like cold spray or even a toothpaste with menthol in will provide some relief.
Neuro bod also said taking a antihistamine will dull it also.
Its not a sign of a relapse just a usual ms flare up and lots of variations of this.

Thanks everybody was just trying to figure if if this is a “normal” part of the ms thing and doesn’t mean a relapse of things are getting worse!..Emma x
Hi Emma,
Ya I’ve had the ‘burning’ skin thing for about 3 months - up to my knees on both legs. Think it has lessened a bit in the last week or so. Said it to my Neuro - he just wrote it in my notes and didn’t say much about it - just one of those things I guess

I’ve got similar symptoms in my left arm too but with really bad itching too and numbness but sensitivity too in my thumb and forefinger any ideas on how to calm it down or have I just got to put up with it?
