Hi wondered if anyone could help. I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis ™ and possible progressive MS last august and I am still going through the slow road to final diagnoses. My symptoms have been getting worse with a lot of pain, which I am getting frustrated with as the medication for the neuropathic pain does not seem to be working. I have been through several medications and currently take pregabalin and also capsaicin cream for the burning and pain in my legs To be honest the pain is a nightmare and feel it is getting worse with no let up all days. I am also on baclofen for the tightness in the legs, which does help but at the moment nothing appears to be working for the burning or swelling in my feet. Just wearing trousers is painful, which gets worse as the day goes on and I look forward to rushing home just so I can put my shorts on, which I have to wear all the time. I do get a few strange looks when it’s cold whilst out, but wearing jeans etc are unbearable. Does anyone have any advise or alternative suggestion of medication or methods to relieve the pain or burning in my legs. Any help will be greatly appreciated Jason
Hi Jason I suffered terrible burning legs for weeks, tried all kinds of drugs and eventually Gabapentin, not sure if you’ve tried this but it’s been fantastic for me, couldn’t imagine life with out it. May not work for you , but worth a try. Good luck Gray
Hello Jason
I to have problems with spacicity in my leg, I have also have a diagnosis of TM and Chronic Fatique. I have been taking Amitriptyline for nerve pain and this has helped me alot. I did try Gabapentin but it did nothing for me. Did they diagnose TM from an MRI or Lumbar Puncture? TM can vary so much in every case, everything for me was sparked by a bad infection but by the time I had a LP, nothing was seen, but TM still highly likely… Can you go back to your Doctor and explain symptoms are worsening and you need to be seen by your Neuro again.
SHope
Hi , Thanks for the advice. I have tried gabapentin which initially was good but then suddenly stopped working. My symptoms were very slow initially at start of last year with increasing back pain then dragging leg after walking then by July they hit the max with intense pain in my legs and difficulty in walking, numbness hypersensitivity etc. Things then slowed but have continued with the pain increasing and balance all over the show. My initial MRI showed a lesion on the spinal cord around c2 and then went for another MRI which I later found out was down to a question of another one on c5. From my understanding TM is quite sudden but my symptoms were quite slow and progressed over time, which is where I think they have come up with possibility of progressive ms. Last neuro appointment was Late December where they said ’ May we’ll be Progressive ms ’ but will have to observe the progression. Had LP last week and await the results. Nerve test was poss with delayed response in right leg. Next neuro is 15/05 so presume will have to wait till then, but will be e mailing them sometime next week. If I can get the pain under control I will be much happier. Thanks again Jason.
