Brain Fog

Ah, Carole, so I’ve been through the entire alphabet and am left scratching my head! So, whilst others are doing the same thing, on a complete non sequitur I thought I’d put a question before you which a friend once asked - ‘What is an occasional table the rest of the time?’. Hmmm … I’m confident that you Fogwits will come up with an answer.

hi there Flopsy try the letter M (a bit schoolboy really) now as for your question, it can be whatever it wants to be if it tries its best.

Hi, Carole! Aha - M it is then - I’m off to search the Urban Dictionary - haha! Love your answer to that question btw - a timely reminder for us all I reckon. xxx

you won’t need the urban dictionary.

it is used in common parlance.

my sons said it once when they were nursery aged, i needed a lie down to recover from the shop.

we use it to refer to hair growing out of the ears and nose.

even bought my husband an ear minge remover.

now i’ve gone and told you what rhymes with binge.

Oh Mugger!

M

I suggest that an occasional table when not being a table is in the way.

§

a bit like me being an occasional idiot…

mind you I am always in the way

Mick

I am occasionally in the way.

But I’m never a table, occasional or full time.

Ssssue,

You just reminded me of a poem I saw on the underground (about a million years ago) by Wendy Cope called the uncertainty of a poet.

I am a poet.
I am very fond of bananas.

I am bananas.
I am very fond of a poet.

I am a poet of bananas.
I am very fond.

A fond poet of ‘I am, I am’-
Very bananas.

Fond of ‘Am I bananas?
Am I?’-a very poet.

Bananas of a poet!
Am I fond? Am I very?

Poet bananas! I am.
I am fond of a ‘very.’

I am of very fond bananas.
Am I a poet?

I was rubbish at English and disliked poetry at school, even managing a U at O level! However this poem on the underground turned me into a fan of Wendy Cope’s work

M

Nice one. I am a banana. Or am I just bananas?

Like cheese, I am very fond of bananas

I am very fond of cheese. But I’m not even occasionally cheese.

hair growing out of ears and nose …………… ???

An occasional cheese? Of that I am fond.

Am I bananas? You bet, and beyond.

There’s some who would say that I’m acting unstable,

So perhaps I’ll revert to an occasional table.

(A nonsense verse)

Nonsense! It makes perfect sense. To a Fogwit.

Such as I.

Or an Edith.

Or a Ssssue.

Or an Evil Professor.
