Brain Fog

Thanks, that explains a lot. Sadly when my O level options came up I could not study biology at the same time as Physics. This does not excuse my ignorance but I thought you should know…

Mic

Did you know that the word Penguin is derived from the Welsh “pen gwyn” which translates as “white head”.

And that’s another reason why a penguin would be rubbish in a race against ducks.

Did you just make that up?

that might depend on the location of the race venue

Mick

Oh are you claiming that the old ‘pen gwyn water versus land’ rules might apply? Well they don’t. If a penguin is daft enough to enter a race against ducks then they deserve to lose. What with them having no legs and all.

§

Ssssue,

It was more a case of "if the Penguins chose to race in Antarctic waters the Ducks might fail to start let alone win.

One winter I went to Cromford canal in Matlock, the canal had frozen over and all the ducks and moorhens were ice skating trying to get our bread it was really funny seeing ducks landing on the ice, there were no penguins in out or on the canal.

Kay

Kay, that is precisely what they want you to think. The stealthy ninja branch of the Special Penguin Service are particularly adept at infiltrating the U.K. canal system, using a combination of smoke and mirrors to defeat locks and any other ducky defences. We could learn a lot from them for the impending IoD invasion.

Mick

How’s this?

spot on RF - pen=head and gwyn=white in Cymraeg. (my grandfather said they spoke Welsh in heaven - not sure why I share this information with you…)

[/quote] Mic – we had the same options Physics or Biology - my friend Iorwerth and I chose the latter. We also had a choice between Latin or Agricultural Science. I chose the latter ‘A weed is a plant that grows out of place…’ The teacher was once giving us a practical demonstration of osmosis when he fainted - we all stepped over him and left the room -

This is all exceptionally educational. Zoology, botany, biology, geography, foreign (to most of us) language lessons, etymology, invasion tactics, and more. And they say we only talk utter drivel on this thread!! At least I do.

§ue

Personally I think “utter drivel” is underrated especially as my fogged up brain contains vast amounts of the stuff. One of the interesting things I enjoyed learning is that there is no ‘K’ in Welsh

Mic

That’s good to ( )now.

Do you thin() it means there are no ()noc(), ()noc() jo()es in Welsh? That would be a good thing!

§

I don’t ( )now. Let’s try one and find out.

( )noc( ) ( )noc( ).

No didn’t work, I didn’t hear you ()noc()ing.

Well done on hitting 12,000 posts. Who’d have thought it, way back when old AD started this Fog thing off that it would last!
