Bond hotel

Evening all.

There may be a possibility of me taking a few days hol at The Bond Hotel.......a specialist place for disabled folk, in Blackpool.

Anyone stayed there?

People from my care home have been several times as it is the only place that caters for profound disabilities that we can find thats close enough to home.

They have profiling, pressure relieving beds with hoists. Dont know if you need a cradle for showers but they arent available so it was bed baths when they were there.Shower chairs are available for those who can sit unaided and roll in showers.

We had to take our own clilnical waste bags but they had facilities for disposal.

Although it caters for the physical needs of my people including some very complex dietary needs, the food in general was not to a brilliant standard and small portions...much petty cash was spent on top up food.

I am biased towards people with learning disabilities and the fun they have when away, but that can make things quite noisy and it does seem to be a mecca for learning disabilty breaks because of the availabilty of equipment that you would need a seperate coach for otherwise.

At the end of the day its a holiday and from what ive seen of you here I have no doubt you would have a laugh and at least you no the place is geared up for wheelchair users not a cobbled attempt at meeting the minimum requirements of the law.

Hope this helps Pip

Hi Polly.....just checked out the brochure and thought it might make a nice break for me and the missus....I've never been to Blackpool much to peoples horror not living that far away apparently I MUST have been.......we haven't had a holiday together for nearly 20 years so it's probably about time!

If you go please give us a report....it might just sway ithappy2

Hi Guy, thanks for your reply and I`m so pleased it could be a good holiday venue for you too.

I see they have an accessible coach which can deliver you door to door.

what a marvelous set up it all looks.

Thanks Pip, yes, your reply is a great help.

Where is the home you work in then?

I can sit unaided in a shower chair, so wouldn`t need bed baths.

In Oldbury West Mids.

We always have their transport to come and collect us as it leaves our bus free for the others and its very reasonable

Thanks for that Pip…still a fair old hike for you.

Sounds like The Bond has cornered the market. Why can`t more places be as accommodating?

I like the sound of their coach.

They clamp wheelchairs properly aswell so its a more comfortable ride.

Mind you the one time they came for us it was a minibus with a trailer as they know how much stuff we have to take. They are all doubly incontinent and for various reasons need at least 4 clothes changes per day plus a suitcase each just for meds.

It is staggering how much stuff they need hence no room for hoists etc aswell.

One point is to check if the hoists are compatable with your slings Im not sure if they have both loops and clips.

Pip

Ok. My slings have loops.
