Bloating

I eat a well balanced reasonably healthy diet, although I know I do not take enough water. I’m not overweight and have never had any problems in the past, but I’ve noticed I bloat a lot lately. It isn’t a “wind” problem as in I don’t suffer with flatulence! It is just ridiculous now. Some days it’s all around my abdomen, other days it’s up as high as my rib cage almost. I can have this distended stomach all afternoon, yet later in the day have my normal reasonably flat stomach. I really do not like looking pregnant! Related to MS, Tecfidera, dehydration, what?! Has anyone any thoughts on this please?

It might be something as simple as a food intolerance and wheat and dairy are two of the more common culprits. You could try cutting out certain food groups for a while and see if it makes any difference.

hi poppy

gabapentin makes me bloated so i have mostly stopped taking it, just keep a pack on standby in case i get another episode of the dreaded hug.

as suggested with food intolerance, i stopped each of my meds in turn and it turned out to be gabapentin.

Going to try omitting lactose for a while and see how I get on.

I don’t take any other medications, just calcium & vitd3

Thanks poppy I will keep you posted

I had really bad bloating recently that came with the MS hug (tight band/tight muscles around my ribcage and abdomen)…

Hi rubyslipper am bloated 24/7 night time especially .

I avoided milk yesterday. I just drank water with a slice of lemon or rhubarb tea. Far too early to say, be no bloating yesterday. I’ll continue today and see how I get on.

Hi, I use to suffer with IBS and had bloating but stopped dairy now I don’t have any problems

That’s a shame Jacqui. Hang on for a week if you can, then maybe try to exclude bread or something instead. I have to say I’ve certainly noticed a difference having stopped just adding milk to m y drinks. I’ll have to just wait and see if it could be that.

Hi poppy am just wondering if it could be anything else , I know ms can leave your muscles week .
