good afternoon everyone, i am a 32 year old woman with remitting relapsing MS. i was diagnosed in march and have had 7 relapses that are ongoing in that time, the one that is the longest is my bladder. it is still ongoing and i am struggling with this! i am very new to this and im looking for advice. i have a apt in September with the continuance nurse. i am unable to empty my bladder correctly. i have had scans done and it shown i am having a lot of urine left in my bladder. i started my treatment yesterday of Trisabri, as i am further progressed than they originally thought. my issue is since 11pm last night i am unable to empty my bladder. i know i am full but i just can not go! have tried showing and running water and sitting stimulating my bladder, however it will just not empty. any advice on what i should do would be very helpful
My sympathies to you! I used to suffer from that but somehow learned how to relax the muscles that control my bladder. Not quite sure how I did it and sometimes I would be standing for ages just trying to relax the general area and to stop myself from getting anxious and tense . Hard to describe but I just sort of let everything go.
( it used to be a real nightmare. When my Dad was alive we would travel several hundred miles by road to see him and have to stop at every service station to see if âI could goâ)§
You might need to self catheterise for a while - I had to start using catheters a couple of years ago, my bladder emptying has improved quite a bit but I still use a catheter once or twice a day. Not as bad as it sounds, I found myself having a fit of giggles over it on more than one occasion; and knowing - definitely - that my bladder is empty before going to bed is great. No more, hopping in and out of bed âjust in caseâ. Its also great for trips and not having to sit on a potentially suspect toilet seat.
Hello @erinfran8
I get that too, only emptying the bladder halfway, they saw that on the ultrasound when I had my Uro-neurology appt, last month.
What I have noticed the last few weeks is the urine retention has lessened, since I completely stopped drinking caffeine, alcohol and soft drinks (major bladder irritants) and itâs also stopped my bladder leakage problem, bonus!
Hope you get your waterworks difficulty sorted, best,
JP
You know the bit of skin just below your tail-bone and just above where your buttock cheeks start to divide? Try touching that area of skin lightly while yourâre sitting on the loo and trying to get yourself to pee. There are some nerves there that seem to be involved somehow and can help trigger things. It doesnât always work, but quite often it does. Worth a try perhaps?
