Best footwear

I have a CIS diagnosis and have difficulties with walking (footdrop and its knock on effects as the footdrop changed my gait). I stick to wearing lightweight, flat shoes to give myself as much feeling of the ground as possible because of balance issues. But I do know the lack of ankle support isn’t helpful. Does anyone wear boots that are lightweight, and flatish without a thick sole. Something with ankle support but still with lots of ‘feeling’ of the ground?

There are ‘barefoot feel’ brands like Vivo barefoot and they’re light and supportive and a quality product, but they are also very expensive. Ditto (on all fronts) Baer. I used to love my sketchers but now I find the rigid plastic soles very awkward - not enough feel. Hotters are always worth a look.

it’s never nice to find that you have to choose your footwear mainly on the basis of practicality.

Have you thought of trying an ankle foot orthotic? They do give a bit of support to the ankle and they have the benefit of raising your toes automatically so you don’t trip over them. When I was starting to have problems with foot drop my MS nurse gave me a referral to the specialist orthotics team, and they deal with posture and gait and a great help.

Personally use under armour lightweight boots just for the ankle support.

Waterproof too and quite a wide base. Either called trek or trail “shoes”.

Also lightweight Timberland boots.
