avonex

I was dx last christmas and started on Copazone in the new year, but after a few months I had to stop taking Copazone due to being allergic, My Specialist suggested Avonex.

Could anyone who is taking Avonex tell me how they are finding it, I have read up on the side effects, but wanted to know how other people are getting on with it.

Thank you Sue

Hi Sue

I started on Avonex at the end of July after being diagnosed in April. I use the Avonex Pen which is very easy to use and because I have chubby thighs the injections are relatively pain free! I’m still getting flu like symptoms the next day which are a nuisance. I take paracetamol which helps some and I’ve been allowed to work from home the day after my injection. I just don’t plan anything much for that day.

Thanks lynne for your reply, I’m not worry about the injections I had them everyday with copaxone, I was just worryed about the side affects (flu like symptoms) Is It only the next day you feel like you have got flu? The last few months on Copaxone I felt terrible but since I have stopped takeing them, I feel great, so I wasn’t looking forward starting more treatment, but the side effects don’t seem to bad so hopefully I will be ok.

Thanks Sue

I’m not on Avonex now, but it did a good job for me for years. I did the injection last thing at night, then took a couple of ibuprofen before going to bed and another couple the next morning on waking, whether I felt I needed them or not. As long as I remembered that last bit, I was usually completely fine. If I forgot the morning ibuprofen, because I had got up feeling great, I would spend the morning feeling a bit hung over and headachy, but not too bad - certainly not bad enough not to be able to go to work etc.

The only once a week bit was great, and no site reactions. It fitted into a busy life very well.
