Hi all,
Am starting Avones in a couple of weeks and am a bit worried because of the side effects. As i work i’m worried i won’t be well enough to go.
Is anyone taking Avonex and have no side effect, it seem extremely rare by what i have been reading.

I’ve been taking Avonex since February and like you I was worried about the possible side effects.
I have to admit that the first couple of times I took it within 3 or 4 hours I started to feel achy and shivery, but by taking Ibuprofen I was able to sleep through it, I felt a bit wiped out the next morning but started feeling better throughout the day. Since then and now I get virtually no problems, I still take a couple of Nurofen and sometimes have a slightly disturbed sleep but that’s as bad as it gets honestly! I feel completely fine the next day. Obviously everyone’s different - you might get no side effects at all! But I think with all drugs that you take (even paracetamol and ibuprofen) you have to weigh up the risks and possible rewards and to me it’s a no brainer!
It has fit into my life really easily, I take it in the evening along with a couple of nurofen, get into my jammies and relax! It’s really easy to inject too if you’re using the pen.
Unfortunately for me it doesn’t appear to be doing the job and I’m waiting for a neuro appointment to come through to discuss the options but I won’t be stopping it until I’m told to just in case it is actually doing some good!

I took Avonex for about 5 years. Took 2 paracetemol and 2 ibuprofen straight after and no side effects.
i was on avonex untill about 9 months ago, and like Lynn and Dave, i also took 2xparacetomol and ibuprofen. At first i had headaches, but they subsided after a few injections, i injected in the evening as that way i slept through any side effects. I woke up next morning with no problems.
Each person is different so you may have no problems at all, i read all the info i was sent and i too was worried, but when you way up the pro’s and con’s, the pro’s outweighed the con’s for me!!!
Hi sam ive been taken avonex for 11 months now and it works for me,ive not had a relapse (touch wood) i use the pen which i find easy on a fri night gives you the weekend to get over any side effects if you get any at all, a couple of parecetomal before bed and then ibruprofen sat morn no probs. gd luck sam… Tony.
avonex works for thousands of ms peeps. shame that pat had adverse side effects with it!!
Avonex does work for thousands of peeps, I am one of them little side effects a bit hungover the next day sometimes and need paracetamol at night but it is doing good. Just had a new MRI ( last one 2006) and no significant developments were reported x
thank you all so much for you input, its really nice to hear that the side effects can be managed with little effort.
