Hello everybody, I am in the middle of my second relapse since August (less than five months apart as this started January) and luckily for me I had an MRI about two weeks ago then saw my lovely Neuro on Friday who told me I have new lesions (not benign then lol). My Neuro wants me to have a three day course of IV steroids (can’t tolerate the oral form) and then he wants me to start aubagio when it’s released in April. Has anyone else been offered this new med and what are your thoughts? I’ve done some Internet research and I think it looks ok even with the various health checks needed etc.
I was offered it too but decided on Copaxone due to the high risk of hair loss and lower immunity (I get asthma and was worried about lots of coughs/colds which always hit me hard). It was a difficult choice and one I might regret as I am getting my injection training today. Good luck!
I’ve been offered it after being on Copaxone for just over a year. I’ve just started to have problems with my injection sites on my arms (skin dipping) and my Neuro thinks that Aubagio would be better for me. I too have had a look on line at the side effects etc, but it’s got to the stage that I’d rather put up with side effects from Aubagio than carry on with the injections!
I’ve done some more digging about it today and to be honest I think I’d rather have betaferon injections again. There are quite a few side effects that sound very nasty and having to have regular blood tests to make sure your liver is ok really puts me off. I was on copaxone in Australia but had probs with injection sites so was put on betaferon instead and was fine with that. Unfortunately when I returned to England in 2005 the Neuro I saw (once) wouldn’t scan me or prescribe it.
I am from the US and was prescribed Aubagio when it had only been available there for 3 weeks. This was my first DMD. I have been on it for over a year now and have only had a little hair thinning. I have blood tests every three months with no problems. I don’t know if it is a side effect but I have lost 15 pounds since I started Aubagio (this is a good thing for me!) Also, I just had my follow up MRI and have no new lesions.
Everyone has to make the choice for themselves and I know it is different for everyone but I thought I should let you know my experience since I have been taking it for over a year.
Thank you for replying Loopey. I have been looking up information on the Aubagio and think I might give it a go. My hair had thinned over the last year anyway so a bit more won’t hurt and if weight loss is a side effect it’s one I can live with lol. No new lesions would be great too, I’m not liking the relapses so the Aubagio is worth the risks I think.
