I’m appealing for the benefits that I’ve been turned down for. I just wondered where I could go to get some help writing letter to go with all of my letters that confirms my diagnosis. I think I have to write all about how MS is affecting me.
My best advice is to join https://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/ Their members only guides are excellent and cover benefit appeals as well as initial claims.
I have joined it so will be having a good look at it properly now my account is live. I have to go to the job centre tomorrow to show them the evidence of my condition.
You never know, there might be a human being there who can do something to help.
We shouldn’t forget, there’s plenty of people who work for the DWP and are decent people who just want to do a good job. Let’s not tar every single person with the reputation of Atos and Capita. The company’s are crap, the rules they and the DWP have to work to are crap, some of the people carrying out assessments are crap, even some decision makers are crap. But there are also a lot of people just earning a living and having to work within a lousy system.
There has to be the possibility of a bright side for you Jo. I shall be keeping my fingers X’d for you.
Yes i agree with Sue,when my wife was chucked off ESA and forced to sign on every single one of the dwp employees we came face to face with were absolutely fantastic. They bent over backwards to help and advise us as much as they could(probably more than they should have?),they were embarrased by whats going on but thankful to us being polite and pleasant to them and apparently they were getting people being very aggressive and abusive to them in the same circumstances.Despite our frustrations we knew these were basically just normal working class people doing a job they weren’t making the rules. They let her sign on very late in day as she couldn’t get there til i got home from work as couldn’t drive and it was them that suggested she also apply for pip too!
I’ve handed copies of all my documents that confirm my diagnosis to someone at the job centre, this is for my universal credit appeal. So I have to wait and see what they with come up with next. I had a really nice lady who works for Dial a Ride come and see me yesterday. I gave her the same documents and she said it should cover the points I was short of in my application. She did the walk up to the stairs to my house and made a note of how difficult they are so she will be putting that in her report too. The only one I have left to do is the PIP appeal.
Thanks again for all of your fab responses, and thanks to Sue for crossing her fingers for me. I hope I do get a bright side.
