Anyone had Oxygen Therapy

Hi all I was wondering if any of you have had Oxygen Therapy in a hyperbaric chamber? The MS centre near me offers it as complementary therapy and I was thinking of giving it a go. Emma xx

Hi Emma, I had all the sessions of hyperbaric chamber last year, unfortunately after completing the whole recommended programme I felt no different. Speaking to lots of people there they said they felt great relief from it . So I came to the conclusion that it helps some , not everyone. At the end of the day as long as it doesn’t cost you much financially and you think it might help you then why not !! Margaret xx

Hi Emma, Like Margaret I had all the initial sessions(20) last year and tbh didn’t feel any different afterwards. I have RRMS. However I certaintly didn’t feel any worse so I keep going for one 1 hour session a week. I find it quite relaxing- I just read a book/magazine, some people take in laptop/I pad etc… and who knows it could be working in some way by preventing me from having any relapses. It certainly doesn’t harm you. It is also a good way of meeting other MSers- and having a quick chat before the session starts. Give it a go if you can afford it. At the centre I attend you are asked to make a donation for the treatment and if you can’t afford it then you are expected to help the centre in another way, maybe by volunteering to raise money via a collection tin at a supermarket once every few months. i started going for HBOT a couple of years ago but i havent been for ages and i’ll have to do the intensive 20 sessions again.

my ear needs to heal before i go again.

emma, if you have a cold it can cause intense pain in your ears so be careful

Hi

I have been having HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) for over a year now.

I wouldn’t say it has made a huge difference. I possibly have more energy after a session. Others report more noticable benefits.

However it isn’t doing me any harm so I am persevering. As I have SPMS there isn’t a whole lot of other treatments out there.

For info: it is adivised that you don’t ‘dive’ with colds or other infections as oxygen will feed them.

I would say it was worth a try if you can get to the MS Therapy Centre easily and the treatment isn’t too expensive.

Good Luck

Anne

My personal experience is that my ears are unable to take the pressure and I love my music too much to risk them.

However, I have sometimes had the oxygen without the pressure, as this can also be beneficial.

I know some people who have had MS for years, and would never miss their weekly sessions - so give it a try!

Hi

I have been going for 10 years and go weekly.

I certainly feel benefit with pain relief and fatigue.

I understand what others say about not feeling a difference but for me it is more noticable if I cant attend for any reason. My pain and fatigue is more noticable.

I woulsd say give it a go, nothing ventured… nothing gained.

I have met a whole new bunch of friends at my local centre in Leeds.

all the best

Neil

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I think I’ll give it a go. Would love it to help with my fatigue. Kind Regards, Emma xx

Do you think it is beneficial for people with ppms

It might be Sherrie. I have SPMS myself and know people with PPMS who use it. If it is easy for you, it is worth a try.

Using HBOT since 2005. Usually go 2 to 3 times a week. Helps with pain, fatigue and the bladder. I certainly notice it if i’m unable to go for whatever reason.

I also find it relaxing. An hours peace listening to the ipod, reading a book or catching up on personal emails.

Give it a try. Hope it works.

Hi Emma,

I’ve been going to HBOT once a week for nearly 3 years and it has been wonderful for me. It has definitely helped my circulation as before I started going I used to be different colour shades, sometime blue, sometimes purple, sometimes a white shade of pale and now I’m PINK. I breathe better, I look better, and people comment on how well I look whereas before they were always asking it I was okay. It hasn’t made a difference to my mobility as I get around in a wheelchair. But I firmly believe it has helped my circulation and oxygen uptake and would recommend giving it a go to see if it will help you. The first sessions are a bit of a bind as you have to go every day for 14 days (well at least that was what I had to do) then after that you can just top it up as you think you need it - I top it up once a week. I’ve also met friends there and it wonderful. PM me if you’d like any further information, that I haven’t covered for you.

Give it a go - it might help you.
