Anyone else same as me ? Driving me crazy !

Hello all, wanted to see if anyone else on here puts up with the same as me on a daily basis and if so how do you manage it ? And make things better in any way …

ok so here goes… I was diagnosed with ms couple of years ago after continued weakness in legs walking the dog etc. Am awaiting another scan to see if anything has changed so they can tell me which sort of ms I’m looking at and asses treatment after that I guess, up to now no medication for ms at all. I, like many others have the usual symptoms of fatigue, weakness, find it hard to concentrate sometimes and just a general ‘down’ feeling… ok, I hear you all say, yea, most of us feel same… part of me wishes that was all I could complain about but I also suffer from a salicylate allergy and it literally feels like I am allergic to everything !! I wake in the morning feeling like I’ve never been to sleep, then the sneezing starts and lasts a couple of hours, then the eyes start streaming and continuously drying my eyes makes me end up looking like I’ve been crying for a week and of course nobody’s eyes stream without a runny nose so blowing my nose often nine times on ten triggers the sneezing again…

all this on a daily basis coupled with the symptoms of ms and holding down a directors position in my job is driving me insane and getting me down so much.

I have a very supportive husband who tries his hardest to help in every way he can but I just wondered if anyone else on here has the same type of allergy and how you manage it, remedies etc.

it’s so hard to know what’s best to take, eat, drink etc as what’s good for helping with ms is more often than not high in salyciate and wouldn’t do me any good.

I appreciate everyone of you on this site has your own symptoms and difficulties to deal with daily and some will be much worse than me, I don’t in any way want to sound like I am moaning or likewise but would love some advice if anyone can help.

I also appreciate we are all in the same boat with the whole COVID thing which brings its own hardships/tragedies for many.

many thanks for taking time to read this

angela.

Hi Angela

I had to google salicylates and learned that it is an allergic reaction to a whole bunch of foods.

Poor you, the above mentioned foods include things that I always have in my fridge.

Have you seen an expert on allergies? That might help identify which foods are the worst culprits.

A friend’s daughter had serious allergies and they ended up turning to homeopathy, my friend actually became a homeopathy practitioner. Sadly we lost touch before covid so there is very little chance of me being able to contact her to ask on your behalf.

I don’t think you are moaning at all.

I hope you find a way to get through this.

I am the same.I never had any allergies until last year and now i am just about allergic to most foods, peanuts and additives mostly and any red foods.I cant eat things like haribo sweets at all as i come out in hives all the time.I seem to react to most things and its so annoying.A few days ago my partner added some onion granules to a casserole and that affected me.It really gets you down doesn’t it?

Thanks for the replies yea it gets me down for sure … I also forgot to mention I have nightmares most nights also … i just need a big reset button !!

Not seen an expert on allergies as yet, this is worth looking into so thanks for the suggestion, maybe someone could tailor a diet for me to try…

and I will also do some research on homeopathy, see what’s involved

many thanks

Hi again Akos

I write this often to newly diagnosed/undiagnosed people.

Try the Breathworks Mindfulness Meditation (they do it online) you will learn how to do deep breathing which calms you right down and should help you to sleep through.

I attended a course at the MS Therapy Centre in Trafford. Now I still do a bit before I go to sleep.

It works!!

This is the MS diet philosophy I follow. It makes a lot more sense to me than the tired old low-fat nonsense that has misled us all for so long.

One thing that occurred to me was to ask whether you have done an elimination process to find out what foods you can cope with?. Start with meat only - almost no one is allergic to meat - and then reintroduce other things slowly and one by one, keeping notes throughout. Some people with food allergies and intolerances - particularly to vegetables- find they do so well on mainly meat that they stay eating that way - at least long enough for the gut to heal completely. I have no personal experience of this, by the way, but it’s what I would try if I were you, I think.
