Any chance of a smooth weekend?

Hello.

For the last whirlwind month, I’ve been getting out and about on my chair. This weekend was no exception. Next weekend is going to be quiet and incident-free.

Best wishes, Steve.

Hi Steve

Great blog, thanks. That is one trip ou won’t forget in a hurry, but hopefully both of your ‘Angels’ will soon be up and running again. Mind you, it quickly reminds you of problems when your w/chair is out of action, and just how much we rely on them.

Hope it’s all sorted soon for you.

Hello Steve, i hope that you get them both fixed. i have to say that is my worst nightmare…I tell Lee that my chair is my legs although i have some mobility in my home, i would be devastated if my chair broke down. One thing i hated was being pushed i couldn’t go back to a manual chair. Having a power chair means freedom with my children, or seeing my granddaughters or even just an adventure with Frazer.

Have you got insurance? Last year i took out a good insurance that covers me for loss or theft an also covers hire of a chair if mine is being repaired and also covers the cost of being brought home no matter how far away. It was quite expensive but i didn’t want to find that i was far away seeing my son in Glasgow when something went wrong.

I am on the look out for a new chair my chair has done lots of miles and at the last service i was advised that the gearbox needs replacing and because the chair was second hand its not worth repairing so at the moment i’m trying to save up and the local mobility shop has promised to match any quote or they may even find me a reconditioned chair.

Take care Steve hope you get it sorted.

Loved the blog again Steve although it’s left me feeling a tad nervous…on Saturday I ordered what I think could well be the same chair! Am I correct in thinking this is the second time it’s broken down?

Take care,

Nina

Hello Nina.

The first time was my own fault for not having the wheel brakes lined up; two switch levers at the back. They are very much reachable sitting in the chair. The last time, the man himself came on the Monday all the way from Blackpool and gave me a replacement. He’s a top man. He’s been through the wars himself and I have no reason not to trust him when he said my case was extremely rare. But he did suggest some form of breakdown cover.

Best wishes, Steve.

Thanks Steve,

Mine is due at the end of next week, so I will let you know how I get on. We are lucky to have a young friend who is an absolute whizz with anything mechanical so any straight forward problem and he will relish mending it.

Did you take out a breakdown policy? I’d very much appreciate any tips as I didn’t take out a policy on my existing one. I chose the type I wanted and then found the same one for sale second hand on eBay, it’s served me very well.

We wanted a new one only because we had a converted car but it was so low on the ground due to the ramp that my husband found being so low and living in the countryside down a tiny unsurfaced lane was a very costly combination!!

We’ve now changed to a normal estate car and therefore needed a collapsible chair.

Hope you’re settling to the single life, I’m pleased to know that you’re getting out and about, seems like you’ve taken it on the chin but it can’t have been easy for you.

Take care of yourself,

Nina

Only ever been to Devils Island once doubt I will go back. My neighbour signed up for the round island bike ride with his brother, his is a very enthusiastic bike rider his brother is a novice. The signed for the short route took wrong turn ended up doin the long route. He ended up with one very exhausted brother who ended up in Saint John’s ambulance ill.Hope that the chairs get fixed asap.

Don

Hello Don, and everyone else.

Both chairs have been replaced. The folding one on Monday and the indoor chair yesterday. I now have three sets of electric wheels. I should be up an’ at’em today but last night, I built a chicken curry and it’s done me in for today.

Best wishes, Steve.

Hi Polly currently myself and hubby are looking to move to the IOW. One of our sons lives there and 5 grandkids. We have looked at certain areas, can you recommend any that is not far from sea, not too hilly lol.

I love Niton, but it looks remote.

I was shocked at how cheap property is over there, and how many have no chain involved.

We are hoping to move in the spring. Just getting this house sorted now, to go on market. I love the Devils Island lol.
