antidepressant - advice welcome

Hi All

Having a bit of a mare of a time at the moment emotionally and have decided to opt for antidepressants and counselling.

Unfortunately my normal doctor is away at the moment and the surgery have no idea when he will be back, so my appointment was with a locum.

He was nice, but even after reading my notes and what drugs I am on, he was a bit puzzled as to what ones to prescribe and said he would get back in touch.

I have just received a phone call and he said he thinks Duloxetine may be ok. Am a bit concerned with the maybe.

I am currently on Carbamazapine 400mg daily.

I am just wondering if anyone else on here is taking carbamazapine and an antidepressant and how they are getting on with them.

Just a bit scared, as really couldnt cope with anymore health ups and downs at moment.

Teri - sorry you’re feeling rubbish at the minute, alot of us are at the moment - I have been down the road of anti-depressants and whilst cipralex helped lift my mood, I am waiting on cognative behaviourial theraphy at the moment, rather than anti-depressants, I am taking St John’s Wort at the moment and yes I know it hasn’t been medically tested etc but human beings have been using nature for centuries to cure all sorts of ailments… Remember, a problem shared is a problem halved…keep talking on here and to anyone who will listen…

hi teri

have you thought re meditation? i have been going for 2 years now and it has really helped me. i have also experienced postnatal depression twice and took medication. i am aware that there is often a need for chemical treatment to ‘kick start’ the process of working your way through difficult times. theres is no guaranteed way but cos of what i know now i doubt i will ever need antidressants again.

medication has its place/role but its not the only way.

i hope u find ur solution to ur current worries via medication, cbt or any other way that u may choose

Hi I was on Citalopram for a few years then felt they wernt having much of an effect so my gp put me on 150mg of Venlafaxine. These work better for me. I am also seeing my local Depression and Anxiety service. Sorry you are feeling so rubbish. Remember that you’re not on your own, we’re all here for you xx
