Amitryptiline side effects anyone?

So my GP agreed for me to start on amitryptiline, started on Thursday night, one dose of 10mg for 4 nights then to move up to 2 for the next 4 etc. well I got to my 2nd dose Friday night to wake up the following morning (yesterday) feeling bloody awful! Nausea, very weak & dizzy. Not being able to eat a great deal either. Much worse than I felt already! Although it did dull my neck pain significantly! But to be honest I would much rather that pain than feeling like I did, however crazy that sounds! I decided not to take last nights one… Has anyone else experienced it? My pain is still nowhere near as bad as it was, could it still be in my system? Mrs C

Might be a coincidence and you’ve actually got a bug - plenty going round :frowning: Also possible to be side effects though, but I wouldn’t have thought that 10mg would stay in your system so long. Best to speak to your GP I would think. I hope it’s short-lived, whatever it is. Karen x

I had to stop amytriptiline as it gave me insomnia - the opposite of what it i’s supposed to do! Teresa xx

Hi lady’s, I felt fairly normal yesterday which was good & this morning too, so I’m guessing it was those, I’ve read that it needs persiverence for a week to get past the side effects it may cause… Hmmm not a very nice feeling to be felt again! I’ll have to give it some serious thought! Thanks  x

I would say it takes about a week or two to get used to even a low dose… but if you are suffering nerve pain it’s worth persevering.

I also had problem with sleeping at first. Took one paracetamol at night for about a week which got me to sleep. Then stopped and found after that I got to sleep no problem.

I take 25 mg at 6.30 pm (my reminder on mobile is set for that time) and 10 mg in morning.

I tried 25 mg in morning but found it zombied me out too much.

Keeps my pain under control most of the time and I have found that my mood has improved. I was waking up angry in the mornings… sort of having imagined arguments with someone. That has stopped since I’ve been on Ami so I see that as a bonus.
