Amitriptyline for peripheral neuropathy

I have secondary progressive so there is no treatment for me, in fact I have only seen an MS professional once in two years. I have a feeling like putting your fingers through wet sand on my hands and especially finger tips. along with the usual problems of SPMS, but have been given Amitriptyline 10mg. BUT is it worth it because I already suffer from many of the listed side-effects and don’t want any more. Anyone have any experience of this drug (I don’t have depression) for this specific problem. It feels like a suck and see solution but this drug has too many problems to enter that world.

No personal experience, but this is the view of the professor of neurology at Barts.

Hello I’ve found Nortriptyline helps with neuropathic pain. I take 60mg a day around 6.30/7pm and find it helps me sleep at night. I certainly know about it if I forget to take it.

I’ve recently increased dosage from 50 to 60mg and it took a few weeks to get over the fatigue but it’s fine now.

I hope you find something that helps you.

Take care

Hi @ahallone

I have taken amitriptyline since 2018, I initially started taking it for transverse myelitis and now for Erythromelalgia. I’ve just been diagnosed with MS. Personally for me amitriptyline has worked well for nerve related pain, it took a few weeks to get over the side effects. I take 30mg on a night and it really helps me sleep. I take it in combination with pregabalin. I did try to come off it for a while but the withdrawals were awful.

I hope you find something that will help
