I started taking Gabapentin a little while ago, was told to take 300 mg per day. To start with one a day then after 2 - 3 days increase it to 2 a day which I did. Then my eyes became very painful, so I thought I’d hang fire on taking the third one to give my body a chance to get used to them. Which is what I have done, last night I took my first third pill and this morning I woke up with the most awful headache, terrible pains in my stomach and feeling sick. Now I’m not sure what to do, as after reading the enclosed leaflet it warns of stomach pain, sickness etc, so my question is should I persevere and see if my body gets used to the extra pill or ring my ms nurse, who by the way is hard to get hold of as I know I can’t just stop taking them?
Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Could you try giving your GP a call? It’s my GP that prescribes my gabapentin so that would be my first port of call. Or try the pharmacist, as they might be able to give some advice. In the meantime, personally I’d cut it down to just one a day like you did at the start, and see how you get on with that.
Thank you Dan, stressed2012 and Patrick for replying. I did today try to contact my ms nurse and as usual couldn’t get hold of her. I will take your advise and contact my doctor, but I have stopped taking the 3rd one, I just felt so awful I’d rather suffer the pain than the side effects.
