Hello everyone. I’m 64 and I was diagnosed 3 years ago. Mine started with tingling sensations in my feet which steadily moved up both legs to just above the waist. I was also getting Lheritte’s sign. My GP arranged an emergency appointment with a neurologist who sent me for an MRI on my spine. That showed a small lesion on the spinal cord, but another MRI on the brain confirmed MS and I’ve probably had it for 20 years. I’ve been extremely lucky that I’ve had no relapse since then and I’m not on any medication. However, saying that, last night I was admitted to hospital. I had a sudden onset of pain around the top of the stomach which got so bad I could hardly walk and I found it hard to breathe as the pain radiated around the back. It felt like I was being squeezed too hard. I felt sick, in fact I was a little, and sweaty too, so my daughter, thinking I could be having a heart attack, rang for an ambulance. So, I had the full works in A&E……ECG, full bloods, ultrasound, X-rays, but nothing was found. My blood pressure, pulse and temperature was good. So, I’m now wondering if it was the dreaded MS hug and I wondered how other people have experienced it. Thanks for reading.

Hi, I’ve never had the hug, but sure sounds like it from what I’ve read. They’ll be more qualified people around shortly to comment. Best wishes. Retro.
Thanks RetrovirusUK, I’m waiting for my MS nurse to ring me, hopefully sometime this week, though I know she is usually flat out. Best wishes to you too. Carole
Mine’s never been that bad, but it does sound like the hug. They can be quite frightening.
Thanks NorasMom, I will just have to wait and see if it happens again and if it does hope it’s not that bad. It was exhausting.
