4 visits private neuro, could it be ms?

Hi. Ive been having symptoms,.different things, for about a year. The ones which point me to MS are as follows:
Pain and numbness in both hands when waking
Pain in upper right abdomen and back going into shoulder
Bilateral thigh pain but with a weird sensation in right leg
Occiassional hip and knee pain
Occassional hypnic torso jerks whe trying to go to sleep
Muscle twitching
Heaviness in right arm

Im over 50 so im scared to death that it will progress quickly if it is

So far I have seen a private neuro 4 times. They have done emg, ncs, 2 brain MRI, cervical and lumbar MRI. All ok. I have just had a thoracic MRI on the NHS too but awaiting results.

I suffer with terrible health anxiety.

Have had hundreds of bloods, only slight concern for me is CRP ranging between of 7.5 to 15

Any thought from anyone as to whether this sounds like MS?

Many thanks

It doesn’t sound much like my MS, which is all I have to go on. My first MRI confirmed what they already suspected and that was that more or less. But that doesn’t mean I think you haven’t got it - I haven’t the least idea.

What I would say is that suspected MS is a bit of a magnet for people with health anxiety because pretty much every Google search you do takes you there. Of course the same Google searches also take you there when you actually do have MS, so that doesn’t help much either! All I’m saying is that Dr Google is a terrible diagnostician when it comes to MS. Specificity is not his strong suit.

It’s great that you have enough self knowledge to know that health anxiety might be at work. At least in a position when you’re better able to self-soothe your fears and be your own best friend when the dark ruminations are troubling you. I’m a terrible worry bug myself so I really do sympathise.

Well, as @alison100 says, going on my experience no it doesn’t sound like MS but that’s just my experience of some initial tingling in my face and arm followed by optic neuritis.

I was diagnosed in my early 50s . I’m now 71 and still walking although limited to 10 mins or so, and otherwise not too bad so don’t despair!

Would be grateful of any thoughts please

Hi jojomedd; This doesn’t sound like MS (from my perspective) either, but only a Neurologist could confirm or otherwise on that count.

What I have experienced previously is fatty liver disease, which was initially thought to be gallstones - I had Pain in upper right abdomen radiating to my back and shoulder/arm. I’m assuming you have been checked out for gallstones / fatty liver?

There are various digestive system issues that can cause similar pain - ie. Crohns, Colitis. Have these been ruled out?

As for the thigh, hip, knee pains - has sciatica been ruled out? Have you been checked out for arthritis? Have you been seen by a physiotherapist/orthotics to check if there is any imbalance in the way you walk? My feet naturally rotate inward which puts strain on my knees and hips; I have special orthotic insoles to adjust my foot position which keeps my knees/hips in better alignment, which reduces pain in my knees, hips and thighs.

You’re dealing with quite a bit right now, and health anxiety is so difficult to handle. Be kind to yourself.

Bless you. Good to hear you are going strong. Take care

Hi all. So this have changed a bit and I’ve had numbness in my left lower leg on the outside. Ive had an mri and it says i have degenerative changes and mentioned the myelin sheath but wouldn’t give me my report. NHS! It’s this now a really strong indicator for ms?

Thanks for your reply, i hope you are ok. I now have numbness in my left calf and the MRI showed degeneration so im waiting now for my GP to contact me as the hospital won’t do anything or give me my report. I have private insurance so i want to take the report to someone privately as the wait times are ridiculous with the NHS.
