Wright Stuff

The Wright Stuff, channel 5 … discussing changes to DLA and ATOS.

Meant to add it is on now…

I was quite disappointed Pat as he insisted on keeping the discussion as to whether a one legged person with a prosthetic leg should be awarded high rate mobility if they could walk the length of a cricket pitch.

There was some dicussion of the amount of fraud (with figures varying wildly) but no one mentioned that DLA fraud is actually 0.7% (one of the lowest levels of benefit fraud) and yet they are cutting the bill by 20%.

Hi Mags, I don’t want to cause a row (at the moment),but how do they know that only 0.7% of claims are fraudulent? Is it perhaps statiticians doing some fancy sums with data from a very limited sample group? Even then they must pull every single claim and claimant apart to get at the truth. Or, is this the % of claimants that come to light, meaning there could be many more which haven’t been found.

Hey Wb. I have no clue tbh, apart from saying that that’s the government’s own figure.

All I can say is that their ‘creativite interpretation’ of statistics would be more likely to give a higher figure than a lower one, unless the figure is only for verified fraudulent activity, in which case it could be higher, as you say.

If fraud rates are mostly down to people failing to notify the DWP of an improvement in their condition, there are probably as many people not notifying them of a worsening in case they lose their DLA altogether…

Would be interesting to find out…
