worried my foot may lead to drop foot

hi i am not diagnosed with ms yet but my symptoms seem to line up with ms, I have a question about drop foot, as I get a lot of nerve pain in my left leg foot, I am now unable to move my toes and now unable to move my big toe, my next appointment with neuro is in 3 months, I kind of do not want to want to wait and see if it gets worse and effects my ankle , I am after being a bit more proactive if possible. Is there any thing that I am do to help me to still keep my foot in use so that I do not have drop foot. Thanks

Probably best to see a physio and get a programme of exercises that might help.

" A physiotherapist can advise on exercises to strengthen the foot and ankle muscles. They can also help treat any other symptoms that may be making your foot drop worse such as spasms or complications that may have arisen as a result, such as altered ways of walking (gait). As well as exercises they may provide equipment that can help correct the foot position, including functional electrical stimulation which is described in more detail below."

Foot drop | MS Trust

Hi,

The foot drop thing must feel alarming for you.

I actually do have an MS diagnosis and some months ago I suddenly had foot drop, which I just assumed was down to MS. It wasn’t.

The quickest appointment I could get was with a GP. He did some tests on me and said he though it was probably not MS. Rather, it had been caused by stress on my lower back/knee from DIY jobs. He referred me for nerve conduction tests, which check your peripheral nervous system (nothing to do with MS).

In my case the foot drop resolved fast. The only thing I did to help it was to try to exercise - either physically moving the ankle joint back and forth with my hand; trying hard to raise the foot, even a tiny bit; walking outside (with a stick). I have no idea if it helped or not.

But there it is - turns out there are various causes of foot drop.

For nerve pain, again, a GP might be able to prescribe something while you wait for the neurologist appointment.
