Workplace madness

Hi Everyone! Winter is now upon us, and if like me, you work in a draughty part of your workplace (not by choice I might add), then you may be able to lend me some support.

I have been ‘accommodated’ in my workplace, but unfortunately the lighter work we do is also in something like a gentle wind tunnel. OK, during the Summer, but horrendous in the Winter. I have RRMS, and am affected by too much heat, and also not enough heat likewise.

Myself and my colleagues have asked for something to be done about the constant draught, but to no avail. I wonder how many companies (and this one is a big employer), can just cherry pick from the Disability Rights Bill, to suit their own needs whilst making it nigh on impossible for disabled workers to feel even comfortable working in the workplace?

This company actually boasts about the number of disabled workers they take in. But the managers don’t give a damn.

Hi, I take it your boss knows you have MS, yeh?

He probably won’t know how the cold affects you. So I would have a calm chat with him, asking if anything can be done, explaining the situation.

If he doesn’t oblige, then speak to HR.

Yes, it’s normally the most obvious idea, that stares you right in the face. Lol. xx

Do something visual which makes a point:

Bring a small igloo tent to work. Put your chair and desk inside, and a small electric radiator!

Also bring a polar bear or penguin toy or pictures of reindeer, Santa etc.,.

Perhaps wear a scarf, hat and mittens too.

Take some photos and send a press release to the newspapers - either local or The Sun or Mirror or Disability News or Black Triangle.

Gook luck!

not sure if the draught problem is anything to do with disability rights…

Sounds as if both you and your colleagues are working in an unsuitable environment and something should be done - not because you have m.s. but because it’s b***** cold!

Call in Access to Work they will explain to your bosses this is totally unacceptable. You can’t tell me that the only ‘Reasonable Adjustment’ in a large company is to put you in a wind tunnel. Access to Work: get support if you have a disability or health condition: What Access to Work is - GOV.UK it certainly is to do with your rights.

Thank you, good people. I will look into it all. xx
