Workplace adjustments

Hi I work at a convenience store and I need a chair. I Have asked the boss but they are worried about the space behind the counter. I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience and how was it resolved please? I don’t want to give up my job or move departments!

They’re brushing you off because they feel that all of the other employees will then want a stool and that none of you can do your jobs while seated. It’s standard management BS.

Verify for yourself that there’s enough room to maneuver, then ask again and quote your country’s disability & labor laws. Try to get a letter from one of your doctors detailing the adaptations you need that are covered by law, particularly if they can make an elaborate list that goes far beyond having a seat. If they still hassle you, go over their head to the next supervisor in line or the HR department, if you have one.

Convenience stores are hard to work with at the best of times. They’re going to fight you every step of the way. Don’t let them win.
