Hi,
I have my 1st neurology appointment in 3 weeks. Could anyone please give me an idea of what to expect?
Hi squarecrisp ( and I like the name). It’s sometime since my first appointment and it probably varies from neurologist to neurologist and depends and where you are in the diagnosis process
My first appointment was basically to : confirm the diagnosis and then to talk about treatments and what might be best for you ( a fairly quick discussion as when I was diagnosed there were only one or two treatments available). From what I recal there was some discussion about what happens next : how and when the treatment would get to me ; and that I would be provided with contact details of an MS Nurse. I can’t remember much more but those with recent first appointments will no doubts have more and better info.
Some short time after the appointment with the Neurologist I then got an appointment with an MS Nurse. True to form, the meeting with the neurologist was fairly ‘business ‘ like but the one with the Nurse was more relaxed.
The Nurse will become your main point of contact- I get meetings with her every six months to review how I am , any new symptoms etc.
Before your session with the neurologist, read up on the range of treatments for relapsing- remitting. Don’t be surprised if the session with the neurologist is fairly business like to the point of being brusque- like many hospital consultants they aren’t known for their bedside manners. It’s a good idea to bring a list of your symptoms , when they started , if and when they changed etc and a list of all the questions you have, plus some paper and pen to write down the answers. If you are anything like me , that first session is a bit overwhelming so a written note of questions you have and the answers can be . very, very helpful. Also, if you can, take someone with you.
Cheers and all the best
Hi Hank Dogs (I like your name too)
Thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.
Thanks for the informative and advice. I’ll make sure to write down some medical history before the appointment and do some research.
Good idea to take notes at the appointment too.
All the best to you too
Hank Dogs is the name of an English Folk/Country band. Bit of an odd unusual sound and songs/ lyrics
Ooo, I’ll check them out
I came across them quite by chance when in a book and music shop. The shop ( long since gone) used to play various random CDs over the its speakers. I have the CD ‘Bareback’.
Just had a listen, definitely a bit different. I liked I’m an angel
Yes, different. I Like their sound and find the lyrics intriguing, a bit mysterious . Had the CD for many years and revisit it from time to time. ( I have a very mixed, varied musical taste - jazz, classical, some folk, rock etc - )
