It depends on a few things, do you need to get to the shops, or off roading in parks or woods. If you go to the shops do you need the scooter inside the shop. I recommend 4 wheels rather than 3. Are your local kerbs low or high, what are the pavements like, you might want suspension or larger wheels. Take a browse on the internet, when you identify a couple find a supplier with a show room or who is willing to bring some to your home. Try several , this will help refine your requirements try to get them to agree that if after a week you do not like your choice they will help to sort out a suitable device. Good luck
I understand you’re talking about a scooter but…from experience, ask for an assessment by an occupational therapist. (You might need a referral from a GP or neurologist to have a visit) Their experience is invaluable. Mine came with the company rep the health board use. I had no idea of the relevance and importance of so many things they spoke and advised about. I was supplied with a top of the range chair, to suit my specific requirements and measurements. Left to my own devices I most certainly would have bought an unsuitable chair and made a costly mistake.
Think about how you will use it. A good salesman will go through it with you, but it is advisable to go in having thought about it.
Do you want to put it in your car
Can you take it on the train
Do you want to use it out of town
How steep a slope do you need to climb
How far do you want to go
Where are you going to store it
There are a lot of options out there
As with choosing a house or a car you are unlikely to find anything that meets all your requirements. Get some experience with shop mobility and borrowing a scooter at a National Trust property. You will start to ask yourself questions. I went on holiday to a holiday cabin that had an all terrain wheelchair, totally impractical for my normal needs but great fun. Also trialled an electric trike, I would have loved one but it would not be transportable in either of our vehicles and not very practical in my local area. Sometimes people end up with multiple scooters, one for local use and another for travel.
I have been stopped a couple of times when out and about by people asking questions. Buying one that is not right for you is an expensive mistake.
