Walking Cane for a Friend

Hello, to begin, I am not a avid computer user. It took me about 30 min. to figure out how to use this conversation board. You get the idea.

I have a daughter that is getting worse and is having difficulties walking. Does anyone have any recommendations in where to go to find a cane? I did find https://www.fashionablecanes.com/. Anyone have any experience working with this company? I tried to find a local store, but most canes are so ugly that I am afraid she won’t use it. She is proud.

Maybe someone can help me by posting some cane ideas here. I tried Amazon, but I have no idea how to use that site.

Thank you for your time,

Steve “The Car King” Golbowski

You can find and buy them online BUT your daughter really needs to acknowledge she wants/needs one. Her GP can reccomend a physiotherapist and they can assess her for a stick. Stick needs to be the right height or you are putting the weight on that shoulder and will end up with arm strain. Some folks get on better with elbow crutches.

this is a brilliant article and your daughter should have a read How I learned to love my walking stick | Health & wellbeing | The Guardian

Hi Steve,

I have a folding cane. It is smart and will fold into four parts for packing. Even more quickly it will snap open and lock with a flick or two of one hand.

Regards,

Anthony

reddivine,

Thanks for the information. I wasn’t even thinking about measuring for the right height. I will definitely has her read the article on theguardian’s site. Maybe that will be enough, along with my love for her to continue to live a happy life.

Walking sticks on line have a great range - lots of different style, patterns and colours etc. I have bought several items from them and their service is good

I can recommend the stick I have, only I don’t think we’re allowed to advertise on here. Will PM you…
