Vitamin D3 and Atorvastatin (Lipitor)???

Most confusing!

I started taking 5,000 iu of Vitamin D3 last weekend and immediatly got quite ill. Quite possibly a total coincidence… anyway MS symptoms were much worse and I had a tummy upset. So I took the capsule Saturday and Sunday and then stopped. Tummy upset cleared up.

But I still want to take it and have been looking on internet for possible side-effects. I then came across a bunch of links that say that high level Vit D3 supplements can lower the effect of Atorvastatin (Lipitor), a statin I take daily for high cholestoral (10 mg a day).

Some of what I read said that the effect of D3 also lowers cholestoral so it sort of balances out (I think that’s what it said… some of this is research results and above my head!)

Nothing on the user info of Atorvastatin about Vit D3 supplements.

Anyone know anything about this?

Anyone know why I might have had a reaction (if indeed I did… as I said, might have been coincidence!)

Thanks for any info,

I always advise people to ask a pharmacist.

Even if you cant get there you could talk to one on the phone,I always trust their advise more than the gp.

This is a particularly useless piece of information, but I did look.

I consulted a different reference to whammel, but the result was the same:

No interactions between D3 and Atorvastatin are listed in the BNF (British National Formulary).

Do note that there is one between Atorvastatin and Grapefruit Juice.
