Update

Hello everyone, All my tests have come back normal, bloods, nerve test, MRI Just had a call from GP to tell about the normal nerve test & he said as they were normal it must have been viral in my neck & the recovery is slow. But I haven’t been ill since I can remember! Symptoms started mid oct, I wasn’t stressed or anxious, I am thankfully not one to become stressed. So I know it’s not that, can it really be viral without me knowing it?! My muscles still twitch a lot, albeit my pins & needles have calmed down a lot, I’m guessing that’s the amytriptyline? The numbness is still there aswell as the weakness, I tried to drive today & I still don’t feel strong enough, I don’t have enough power in my legs/feet, I still have no plantar reflexes either. I am due back to the neuro on the 5th feb but I guess if the GP thinks I’m fine then so will she? Do you think I should push for testing for muscular dystrophy? It is in my family, my aunt has it & her daughter did, it was my grandad who was the carrier of the gene but my father was never tested to see if he were… My GP is convinced it’s not that, would it show up in one of those tests I’ve had? Any advice please?

With all due respect to your GP Mrs C, my bloods and nerve conduction tests were fine (not MRI though) and I was still diagnosed with MS. If I had listened to my GP (who told me that I didn’t have MS), I would still be undiagnosed and receiving no treatment at all.

GPs are not experts on MS, so I would wait to see the neuro as it’s their job to either confirm or rule out MS.

If your neuro tells you that you don’t have MS, then I would ask them about tests for muscular dystrophy and tell them about your family history and they may be able to offer advice or refer you to the correct specialist (sorry, not sure who MD comes under).

Best of luck hun,

Mags xx

It’s bound to be possible for a virus to wreak silent havoc, but I can’t imagine it’s common.

I think Mags has given you really good advice. I’d follow it, if I were you.

Keep pursuing other avenues. Doctors use the “virus” excuse if they cant find another!
