Travelling abroad with Sativex

Morning all

Quick question: has anyone on Sativex had any problems travelling abroad with it?

I started on Sativex in February and I’m off to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks, so just wondering how easy it was to get a prescribed cannabis based drug through customs?

Never had any problems travelling with DMT’s or other drugs (I do the HK trip 2/3 times a year), I’ll have copies of prescriptions etc. and I’m not expecting any issues, however, I am curious.

Also interested in any countries where travelling with an open bottle of Sativex has been a problem.

TIA…

Definitely one to do your homework on and take no chances. A cursory google suggests absolute no can do. But as the one who risks making his/her case to a stony-faced guard with a gun, I am sure you will do your homework thoroughly. :joy:

Hi Garry

I’ve only flown around Europe with sativex, and every time I’ve gone I’ve had a letter from my consultant explaining sativex and all the others I take. I have been to Hong Kong, but it was before I started using sativex. I flew to Australia a few months back, and we had a stopover in Singapore. I didn’t even bother asking for a letter about sativex because I read the Government website and it was going to be more hassle than it was worth to even try and get permission to bring it in so didn’t bother, but in the event nothing was searched anyway. My GP prescribed me tamazepan to do the work of sativex while I was away, but I even chickened out of that!

I just had a look on the Hong Kong government website, and to me it reads as though they will be fine with it as long as you get a copy of the prescription, and the letter from your doctor, and apply for permission on their website. The way they talk about medicine seems to accept but they know the difference between prescription drugs and illegal drugs, so have a good read of it all and see what you think.

I am impressed by your sang froid, coolly taking Sativex through Singapore. I would have had a nervous breakdown! :joy:

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough, I left the sativex at home. There was no way I was going to risk being a Bridget Jones in a foreign prison!

Ah! I misunderstood. I’m rather relieved to learn it! :joy:

Thanks for the replies, it’s appreciated.

I’m happy that both HK and mainland China will be fine, so I’ll see what happens. Singapore might be trickier although I’ll deal with that next year. No point in worrying about it until then
