Too Many Meds?

Hi

I’ve currently got this weird spaced-out, woozy, dizzy feeling. Very unpleasant. It’s been happening on and off for about 2 weeks now. At first I thought it was the Sativex so I stopped it a few days ago but the feeling persists. I’m starting to think it might be all the other medication I’m on (Gabapentin, Baclofen and codeine sulphate for non-MS related pain).

I know I’m not supposed to stop these suddenly so I’m thinking about reducing it gradually from today. Has anyone else had this weird ‘high’ feeling and was it a side effect of any medication? My MS Nurse is off for 3 weeks. There’s my GP but getting an appointment is difficult. He’d probably refer me to the MS Nurse anyway. I’d be grateful for any thoughts or opinions.

Thanks for reading.

hi JZ

it seems that our meds can start having side effects even when we’ve been taking them for a while.

maybe taper off one drug to see if that was the culprit.

then the next one and so on.

hope you manage to get in touch with your ms nurse soon

I took benadryl with coca cola once, i do not remember much that day!

Gabapentin made me feel like a zombie for the four weeks I stuck it out and I never really got on with Baclofen - it made me very edgy, my fingers twitchy (try working a mouse - it wasn’t fun!) and generally sent me a bit loopy.

Much happier on Pregabalin and Tizanidine (although finding the right dosage for the latter is an ongoing process)

I used to know someone who took seven Amitriptyline in one go after never using it before and he signed up for £15,000 worth of double glazing that day that he couldn’t afford. Luckily, the company were very accomodating the next day when he went there and told them he’d been off his head on drugs!

I am on high doses of Gabapentin and know these make me “high”

As already said, better to reduce one drug at a time to see how it goes, could be just one drug or combination.

Maybe phone local pharmacist if still a problem. I am lucky in that my local pharmacist is always willing to talk to me about the meds and has on a few occasions advised doctor of conflicts with my drugs…many non MS.

Good luck

Thanks for you replies. Over the last couple of days I’ve cut everything right back and stopped the codeine and Sativex completely. Feel much better today.

I felt really zonked out on baclofan-even on half a tablet so I stopped that. Glad you are feeling better and I agree having a cocktail of too many drugs isn’t a good idea.

Glad you are feeling better Jake, hope you sort out what drugs suit you soon.
