Hello,
I’m currently on Tecfidera and needing to have yellow fever vaccine for travels. I found out it’s not advice to have it when on Tecfidera. I’m wondering what is the reason behind it? Can anyone help please?

I’m on Tysabri and I was advised against live vaccines. Can’t remember why. A slight change of itinerary and plenty of industrial-strength DEET was the solution for me.
Thank you for replying Alison. I’m trying to find out why it’s adviced against. I read something online that the interaction between Tecfidera and yellow fewer vaccine can cause a relapse. I’m travelling to Colombia. Where did you go? I’m worried I won’t be able to transfer to anywhere else from Colombia as we are thinking of going to Asia after that.
Peru. Highlands and coast fine - yellow fever risk low there. But needed to avoid Amazon rain-forest where the risk is higher. The advice I was given re the live vaccine was: ‘don’t get a live vaccine but don’t get yellow fever either’.
I see. I have emailed my MS nurse to ask why I can’t have the vaccine and awaiting reply. Surely catching yellow fever must me more risky then having the vaccine.
True, without a doubt.
Your advisors can only advise, and at the end of the day it’s for you to weigh up the risks and benefits as you understand them and decide for yourself.
Exactly. I will make a decision once I get more answers. Thanks Alison
