Suspected MS, Awaiting Referral

Hello!

This isn’t a message I ever expected to write, but I’m grateful that this forum exists and that I have the opportunity to share in what seems an exceptionally supportive community.

My name is Nicole, and in the last few days after an unexpected (and terrifying) trip to A&E with stroke-like symptoms, I was told by the consultant that an MRI scan had detected some abnormalities and that he suspected I may have MS.

At the moment I’m waiting to be referred to another neurologist for a second opinion, but I feel like my world has been turned upside down. However, I’m determined to put it on a new axis, one that still keeps my world spinning and keeps me living and enjoying my life with my husband and son to the best I possibly can.

Admittedly, I’m scared. I feel quite poorly at present, and there are parts of my day when I don’t think there will be a way through. I hope, though, that whatever the diagnosis, and whatever happens, I can journey along with you all here in finding acceptance and adapting to what looks like a new life for me.

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Crumbs, that’s a shocker for you. I am sorry that you’re having such a torrid time. Many of us on here - me included - will remember their personal versions of where you are now and really feel for you.

I hope that you get some clarity soon about what is happening and what’s to be done about it.

Thank you so much for your reply and your kind words.

It feels like such two-fold grief at the moment: one for the life I had before the weekend and one for a life I thought I would have. Holding on tight to a railing of hope, though, whilst navigating this.

Thank you again!

WOW !!! I am pretty new to all this too.
I think your attitude is amazing and probably will be a massive help to you in your future. I wish I could be half as positive but sadly that’s not my nature and I’m jealous.
There are some VERY helpful people on this forum and have eased my mind a little on several occasions.
My tip would be to keep talking and asking questions on here even if its just to chat and grumble with people in a similar situation.
I wish you all the luck in the world going forwards as I’m sure everyone else does too.
Best wishes
Dave

For sudden health reasons only indirectly related to MS, I am feeling very much the same just now. Your attitude is what I’m aiming for too, so you’ve helped me there. Thank you

Hi Dave!

My optimism may look sturdy in my messages, but it isn’t so much in reality.

Talking is a good thing, and by sharing and lifting each other, we have community. I’m so pleased that the forum has provided some ease to you whilst being in the thick of what is an uncertain and scary time, and I’m sure this community can bring reassurance too.

I hope that you are able to find many joys and positives whilst journeying through the challenges. Wishing you the best of luck, and sending love and strength.

Nicole x
