Just wondered if anyone could advise me on a wheelchair thats more suitable for a taller person. I am 6 foot and am finding using the one i have had for 7 years increasingly difficult. My legs are too long and i can no longer stand, let alone walk now. Even one where the height of the seat could be adjusted would help. Good neck support would also be very helpful as i feel my head could roll off my shoulders at times. Keeping my head up physically, not mentally, is hard to do. Even my physio or o.t cant help with neck exercises - am not sure anyone can really. Guess it is just the nature of this beast.
Anyway i dont mean to sound like i am having a moan, but any suggestions on any of the above would be more than welcome. As the song says - ‘always look on the bright side of life’.
firstly-i think ur physio tells fibs! is a powerchair an option for you? sadly u will require input from the questionable physio. or maybe gp can help? i am not sure.
secondly, whether its ‘the nature of the beast’ or not is immaterial-u need real support (physically and mentally) and u deserve it!
i detest the term ‘fighting ms’ but i do believe in doing my best with whats available!
now accessing that help-thats a different story but never give up. even the small adjustments can make a huge difference to you.
I would call your local wheelchair services if I was you (your MS nurse or the ot could refer you if you’ve never been in contact with them before). They’ll then be able to give you as assessment. Alternatively, you could just go to a local mobility shop as they should be able to give you some good advice too.
