Hi all. I’m a dressage rider not long diagnosed with MS. I’m overheating while riding which is causing problems - it’s like being drunk in charge of a horse! Has anyone had a good experience of using a cooling vest for sports? I need something that works independently and fits discreetly under clothing. Your experiences of these - or any other top tips appreciated.
You could try Googling Thermapparel cooling vests. I finally took the plunge and made the investment in time for for this summer. On the few hot days we have had, it has been very helpful.
It’s early days for me, but so far the pros and cons are:
Pros
It does what it says on the tin.
The customer support is very responsive and good - great instant advice from their real person on-line assistant.
They absolutely know about MS and understand our needs.
Discreet, not bulky, effective, doesn’t leave you soaking wet.
Phase-change cooling packs can be refreshed quickly in the freezer (best to have two packs so you can swap them in and out).
Cons
They’re darned expensive, and the costs of shipping from US to UK are eye-watering, as is the UK customs charge that you then have to pay before the carrier can deliver.
They have lots of promotions and offers, but most of them are US only.
They say the cooling packs lasts between 1-3 hours before needing recharged - I have to say that it’s been closer to 1 hour than 3 for me.
Overall
So far, I definitely feel that the investment has been worth it and that I can recommend them.
You asked specifically about sports and I can’t answer that one, but it’s certainly worth asking them.
