Smoking

Hi, Just a quick question.

I attended a lecture/meeting with a large number of people run by some of the top MS professors a few months a go. They mentioned ‘smoking’ can cause relapses. I mean, I know it’s obviously not good for anyone, but i’ve been smoking a lot lately. I go through stages.

I was wondering,… how do they know this by evidence? Is it going just by statistics?

To those that have the answer & can reply, thanks in advance.

Duplicate post…sorry.

If you sneeze, bite your fingernails, or squint in the sunlight…theyll tell you its due to smoking…if you are a smoker!

I`m not a smoker, but my hubby is…10 a day and not in the house.

He used to be 40 a day man and was sick of having to re-decorate as the walls in the house yellowed quickly.

He has made several efforts at giving up, going cold turkey, seeing nurse, using patches, gum, tablets…he did manage to cut down a lot, but when he was abstaining he was hell to live with!

Can`t tell you if it causes relapses sorry. I expect someone will.

I would think if top MS professors are saying, smoking can contribute to relapses. Then I should think, they have the research/statistic evidence, to back up there claims. Many things can contribute to relapses…it’s up to the individual what they do about it. I stopped smoking ten years ago…my husband, stills smokes. NOT, indoors!! We ex-smokers are a very critical lot…I’m forever nagging him to stop x

Thanks Blossom. You’re right. I go through odd stages, where I smoke like a trooper outside the home, then I can stop for a few months, (& when someone’s smoking near me, I can’t stand the smell of it), but then go back to smoking again in a matterf weeks. It’s strange. But, like you say, we ‘must’ look after ourselves mustn’t we (as if we already have a lot to deal with).

Thanks again x

I smoke and havent been told this. I was advised to stop which isnt going too well (stood in the garden having a ciggy as i type) but just because its bad. I quit for 3 months before i was dx but had symptoms and I cant say i noticed a difference x

hi ocean

oxygen is important for everyone but especially those with ms.

thats why hyperbarric oxygen is good for us.

having said that, when i’ve had HBOT i just have to nip outside for a fag!

I tried various ways to stop. Then I read a book by Allen Carr “why women smoke” I never smoked again after reading the book or even desired to smoke. You have to really want to stop, otherwise none of these aids will work. I think the book worked for me because I’m a logical thinker. Borrow it from your library…who knows?? xx

If you pop “smoking” in the search on this site it comes up with quite a few results. Needless to say, none of them are good.
