Segway style seated chairs

Hi - First post here - does anyone have any experience of these funky 2 wheel self balancing segway style chairs? I have been walking with a stick for a couple of years now and I just tend to stay safe and do what I know I can manage. This has resulted in my world getting smaller and I came across someone in Ireland on a stand up segway cloan. He offered me a go and it was easy to manage and very stable. I could have run off with it it was so usable.

On later investigation I discovered a number of seated models based on either the segway or the smaller ninebot platforms. These chairs are adapted versions of the standing personal transporters and look fantastic and are reportedly Street legal in the UK. Check these out in the following links they would change my world giving me access back in many places like the woods and beaches. They have a working range of 12 - 30 km on a charge wow.

Has anyone had a go or one of these? Apparently as long as you have some core strength and upper body balance you can ride one of these. I want in!

I guess that you would have to watch out for something based on a Hoverboard - given the number of reported fire incidents.

There are a lot of genuine Segway scooters in use in the US (security patrols, messengers and similar) that would suggest reliability.

Not sure why links were removed but do the Google thing - look at Genny mobility and Nino robotics. There are other makes and better prices as well.

I have ignored wheelchairs thinking they were for others but this looks great.

Can anyone with experience of using chairs offer opinions on these cool machines? Has anyone been on one?

Speak soon

David

I assumed it was a sales pitch rather than a genuine post, which is why the mods have removed the links.

Dear 6avid,

Your links were removed because in the House rules, it states:

'Selling and spamming: Please don’t promote third parties or their products or services, or content that could be considered spam’

You can see the House Rules here: https://community.mssociety.org.uk/forum/everyday-living/house-rules

It is highly unusual for a genuine person affected by MS to introduce themselves to the community by recommending products, would one do that if you walked into a party of strangers- unless you were a salesperson?

For the first time in the 24 years I have had MS I have something very positive to communicate that I considered worth starring and that was neither “selling or spamming”.

Get back under my stone then eh?

Hi David

I was an early responder to your post about these chairs.

I’m really sorry if you feel that we’ve treated you unkindly, but see if from our (my) perspective. You joined the forum and on that same day started a thread that included links to a product. It looked like you were promoting that product for the financial gain of the company concerned.

Please don’t let this experience put you off the forum, we’ll be much more friendly if you choose to post further with your experience of MS.

Hi David

Yes I have seen these - my sister who uses a wheelchair sent me the link to see what I thought - she is keen to have a trial - I will let you know if she does.

I was interested in these but on reading, as you pointed out, you need good core strength and that is something which I am sadly lacking - I might be able to get it going - but would I be able to stop it!!

I remember a post from a number of years ago from someone who used a segway to walk her dog.

I find it encouraging to see that new mobility aids are being developed - I use a scooter but would love one which is as small as mine but that could go off road like the tramper. The price tag on all of these items also makes you think twice.

Regards

Helen
